West Indies also didn't help themselves with a couple of run outs - Realeanna Grimmond's was particularly comical although not too many connected with West Indies would have been laughing at the time...

Things all started well for England at Canterbury, winning the toss, choosing to bowl and then taking two quick wickets courtesy of Lauren Bell.

Hayley Matthews can't do it every game and she won't do it every game.

It's a bit of a running theme for West Indies that without her and Deandra Dottin, they don't really have anybody else.

You do fear without Matthews, it could be a disaster for West Indies.

  7. 'Chase was calm and calculated'published at 21:48 British Summer Time 21 May

England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt, speaking to Sky Sports: "Happy days, I didn't have to do anything!

"The important thing was that we managed to take wickets all the way through the innings. Hayley [Matthews] is such a big player for them but stemming the runs by taking wickets at the other end was our method today.

"Then that chase was calm and calculated. It was brilliant to watch."

On captaining the side: "Sometimes I can feel quite muddled and everything is going really quickly. But today it felt pretty calm and I was enjoying it."

On Hayley Matthews: "If we can get as many of our best balls against her, we'll put a bit more pressure on her. She played really well and the wicket was pretty good today with a quick outfield.

"We were happy to restrict them to that total in the end."

On players arriving in form: "It was a really important of our preparation to get as much cricket in as we could before playing West Indies and it showed today. Especially with the bat but the bowlers put it in good areas as well.

"We're going down to Hove, a new surface, a new day and hopefully we'll adapt to the conditions and have another good game."

  8. 'We missed out on our execution'published at 21:44 British Summer Time 21 May

Player of the match Hayley Matthews speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a good day for myself but unfortunate not to get the win. I think we were 15 or 20 runs short. It was probably always going to be hard to defend 150. Unfortunately, we were on the wrong end today.

"It is always pretty good to get a hundred. Hopefully, I can carry this form throughout this series."

On improvements needed: "Our plan is still solid but we missed out on the execution. It's about picking ourselves up and starting fresh. There's not too much to be done about today but we still got some positives to take from the game.

"It's always good for the youngsters, like Realeanna Grimmond who made her debut today, to be getting these opportunities."

Really happy for England. We've seen a new head coach, a new captain and England back to winning ways.

I loved the fact that we have seen Linsey Smith and Issy Wong back in the squad and Em Arlott making her debut.

There was no Sophie Ecclestone, but Smith came in and did the job Ecclestone would have done. England have been on top all the way.

A new era, a new leadership and a new impetus to start the summer as well after a winter that saw a fair degree of trauma.

To start what could've been an awkward summer early on with a run chase that seemed difficult at the halfway stage but they have made it look very easy.

It's nice to see Heather Knight playing with a big smile on her face.

She was in good form in the Ashes. She scored some good runs. She was almost playing on her own at some stages in Australia.
