Afghanistan have never beaten India in a T20 international.

They've faced each other eight times, with India winning seven and one no result.

The last time they played, it was an absolute thriller - India winning after two super overs in Bengaluru in January.

The cricket fan in me would love to watch something similar today. The report writer in me, not so much.

Regardless, what a time this would be for Afghanistan to record their first T20 win over India.

England’s group stage was a mixed bag with a washout, defeat by Australia and two rain-affected wins against Namibia and Oman which meant they only edged through courtesy of their net run-rate.

This performance, against one of the tournament favourites, was Buttler's side back to something approaching their very best.

West Indies were unbeaten in eight T20s but their powerful batting line-up was kept in check and then the score knocked off with relative ease.

After all of the doubts, England suddenly looked like contenders again.

  8. Impressive England beat West Indies to start Super 8spublished at 15:22 British Summer Time 20 June

England produced their best performance of the T20 World Cup so far to begin the Super 8s stage with a composed eight-wicket win against West Indies.

Having cannily restricted the previously unbeaten co-hosts to 180-4 on a good pitch, the defending champions completed the chase with 15 balls to spare.

Phil Salt batted through for a fine 87 not out while Jonny Bairstow made 48 not out to add impetus after the loss of Jos Buttler and Moeen Ali.

England won at a canter and, perhaps significantly, boosted their net run-rate.

They play South Africa in less than 48 hours, knowing a win will likely seal their progression to the semi-finals.

I'm sure England fans who didn't stay up overnight were very pleasantly surprised to see Jos Buttler's side secure such a comprehensive win over an in-form West Indies.

It's tricky to definitively judge the form of both these sides based on the first group stage.

India finished top of Group A after thrashing Ireland, edging a victory over a Pakistan side that choked the chase and doing what they had to do to beat USA after being given a fright. Their match against Canada in Florida was a washout.

Afghanistan thrashed Uganda and New Zealand in impressive fashion before seeing off Papua New Guinea but were then thumped by West Indies, ultimately finishing second in Group C.

Both sides have made one change from last time out. Left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav replaces fast bowler Mohammed Siraj for India. Hazratullah Zazai is in for Karim Janat for Afghanistan.

Tell a lie, Ravi Shastri went for a pull shot to indicate India are batting first, rather than the drive.

His hat is truly astonishing. Kind of like a fedora in shape, but made up of rectangles in a sort of wicker basket-eque weave - and luminous green.

If I was Stephan Shemilt, I'd spend 20 overs focusing on it and other increasingly niche cricketing hats.

    But on we go...

Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan: "We would've batted as well. But the toss doesn't matter as much in T20, it's more about the mindset.

"I'm quite happy how things have gone in this World Cup. It's more about in this stage facing every good team and making the right decisions, controlling our emotions and playing our natural game.

"It does help getting used to the conditions but you still have to play good cricket."

India captain Rohit Sharma: "We're going to have a bat. The pitch looks alright at this point, I don't know how it's going to progress. A good track, not much grass, as it goes on I think it'll get slower and slower.

"We had a good time in New York, we won games there, we've got to get used to conditions here. We've had training sessions here, it's about understanding the conditions and taking the game on.

"It's a different feeling to wherever we play in the world. Early start, we usually start in the evening. It's a good feeling, we do enjoy coming here and playing cricket.

"We've made one change, Kuldeep comes in place for Siraj."
