There's a lot of talk about England's approach today - Cricviz has an xG type measure, and they reckon England should be 95-3 right now...

If Angelo Mathews tries to produce an effort ball, I think something might go in his body.

Angelo Mathews to bowl for the first time this series. Light related? Me thinks so. It is gloomy. Very gloomy.

Where will Root stand for this?!

Maiden over from Rathnayake. He's found a little rhythm.

Sri Lanka's issue today has been consistency. Rathnayake gives Root food for thought but then Vishwa Fernando can't follow it up. Way too much floating down the leg side.

And that is exactly why Root is batting a couple of yards outside of his crease.

Sometimes you get bowlers who are recorded at 80mph and it feels quicker - like Vernon Philander. Vishwa Fernando is bowling 82mph and it feels slower.

When we used to play "proper cricket" we were regularly 30-3. Give me 150-2 playing this way any day.

Pope strokes a boundary from Rathnayake. He looks like he is going to get his head down and pursue a big score.

The bowler then delivers a couple of beautiful nuts to Root. Away swinger, away swinger, in-ducker.

Then our Joe pulls out of one just as Rathnayake is about to hit his delivery stride. When the ball is eventually bowled, Root has a little nibble.

Sri Lanka haven't bothered the stumps at all - 10% would have hit or clipped, only once in their last 25 Tests have they targeted them less.

It's been a bit strange today, I thought the ball was going to do all sorts.

It might do more tomorrow if there's not as much moisture, I think we've all been surprised with the lack of seam.

Watching Joe Root bat is mesmerising. He was facing Vishwa Fernando from about 18 yards in that last over. The game is too easy for him.

  18. Australia set big target for Scotlandpublished at 16:22 British Summer Time 6 September

Australia have set Scotland a formidable target of 197 in the second T20 match of their tour.

Brad Currie dismissed Travis Head for a first ball duck, but that brought Josh Inglis to the crease and the wicketkeeper-batter blasted 103 from 49 deliveries before being dismissed by Chris Sole in the penultimate over of the innings.

Australia lead the three-match series 1-0, having cruised to a seven-wicket win on Wednesday.

A final T20 follows tomorrow, before the Australians travel to England for a white ball tour.

Meanwhile, north of the border, Scotland are taking on Australia. If you've never been to the Grange in Edinburgh, I highly recommend it. Glorious spot for a bit of cricket. What is happening?
