While Peter Wright's hopes of making the top four ended some time ago, this is a huge match for Michael Smith in his bid to make the play-offs.

A damaging defeat by Rob Cross in Liverpool last week means Smith is now four points back from Michael van Gerwen in fourth.

Smith's only nightly win came in the opening week in Cardiff but given how the table looks, it is likely he'll need at least one more if he is to progress.

He did win his only other match against Wright in the Premier League, coming out on top in a last-leg decider in Brighton back in week six.

  2. How things standpublished at 19:11 British Summer Time 2 May

With a maximum of 15 points left to play for, six of the eight players are still in with a chances of making the play-offs.

Gerywn Price's withdrawal means he joins Peter Wright in being eliminated from contention.

Luke Littler and Luke Humphries could mathematically clinch their top four places if they triumph tonight, although the latter would require Michael Smith to lose in the quarters to do so.

Smith, Nathan Aspinall and Michael van Gerwen will still have more work to do next week even if they triumph in Aberdeen.

Meanwhile, if Rob Cross doesn't win tonight then he is officially out of the running.

Gerwyn Price has thrown some amazing darts but he's been punished for pretty much every mistake.

Hopefully this back injury isn't an ongoing issue because we're in the major part of the season now. You don't want to give people two points for the rest of the season either.

Luke Humphries will be laughing. It doesn't help the others. He might go on and win the night now for all we know.

Before we go any further, the big news ahead of tonight's contest in Aberdeen is that Gerywn Price has withdrawn because of a back injury.

The Welshman had been due to play world champion Luke Humphries in the last quarter-final but a trapped nerve in his back, which also meant he missed the Austrian Open last weekend, has ruled him out.

As a result, Humphries gets the two points and a bye to the semi-finals, as well as +1 to his leg difference. He will face the winner of Michael van Gerwen v Rob Cross in the last four.

Price receives a deduction of -6 to his leg difference in the league table.
