The penultimate match of the second round is one of two all-English affairs this evening as Dave Chisnall prepares to face Ricky Evans.

Chisnall, the current number six seed, reached the quarter-finals last year but was beaten at the last eight stage by eventual world champion Luke Humphries.

Hoping to cause a second round exit is "Rapid" Evans, who is looking to reach the third round for the second straight year after beating Australian Gordon Mathers in the first round.

The winner will face Welsh qualifier Robert Owen in the third round after Christmas.

    Chisnall v Evans

Ricky Evans talking to Sky Sports: "The whole frustration of 2024 was me during that [first-round] game. Things that never happen in a game, happen to me, and I got frustrated and I threw quicker and the more I hit. Then I let it slip. It was the story of my year.

"It is such a weird game. I wish I knew why it happened to me. I've just got to roll with it, there's no point dwelling on things. It is nice to win on the big stage."

If Dave Chisnall continues doing what he is doing it will turn for him on a TV stage. He will eventually get his hands on a title if he carries on performing like he is.

I don't know what kind of condition his back is in, that will be a concern. If he is fit he can do anything, he is unbelievable.

  8. 'I'm very proud of myself'published at 21:15 Greenwich Mean Time 23 December 2024

Daryl Gurney speaking to Sky Sports after beating Florian Hempel 3-2: "I think the first set I was absolutely diabolical, after that I just kept it together and didn't panic. The first was set on his throw, I tried not to worry about it.

"The 156 to make it 1-1 and after that, I felt really composed. I think coming from behind more or less the whole way through that game, I'm very proud of myself. Normally when someone gets on top of me, I fade away a little bit."

On facing Jonny Clayton and his good record against him: "That record doesn't matter. Me and Jonny are great friends. I wished him good luck earlier and he came through really squeaky bum time in that game. He would rather play me than Mickey Mansell because I play the game how it is. He's very much a gent of a man."

Daryl Gurney, needing a hold of throw for the match, lands his fifth 180 of the night to close in on a big win over Florian Hempel.

Gurney splits the 20s in half but lands double 1 for an enormous victory from 1-0 and 2-1 down.

He roars and lets out a big celebration, rightly so! Jonny Clayton awaits.
