Robyn Love was in buoyant mood after an individual 16-point haul helped ease Great Britain to a comfortable 69-34 win in their women's preliminary round wheelchair basketball contest.

GB were dominant from the very start and offered some hope that they might be able to challenge for the podium for the first time in front of a raucous crowd at the Bercy Arena in Paris.

"It's absolutely completely different to Tokyo," Love told BBC Scotland. "A man and his dog weren't actually allowed to come in and watch us (as a result of pandemic restrictions), so to have all these people, all these GB flags waving proud, it makes a huge difference to us and our energy and it makes us want to do it for the people of Britain.

"We know that we've still got to build and we can do more. For me, going forward, I've just got to stay relaxed, loosey goosey and keep doing what I’m doing."

    MacQueen on the ranking round:

“Relieved it’s finished. I was just so nervous which is a bit mad because I do this all the time. I’ve just been waiting around today so to get it over with is a relief, I can just go and sleep now.”

    On competing again:

“It’s the biggest crowd that any of us have shot in front of. It’s going to be pretty special. And to have the family out there is going to be pretty cool. I’m just going to go and do my best.”

"I knew what my advantages were and I used them to my advantage - it obviously worked."

On competing in the La Defense Arena: "I have been competing internationally since I was 13 and I have never had a crowd this big - it really helped.

"I am grateful to everyone who helped me get here. We didn't know if I would make it so I'm really happy."

Penny Briscoe, Chef de Mission of ParalympicsGB, spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live about working for GB's Paralympics team since 2001: "It's the best job in the world as I get to spend my time with para-athletes.

"I told our two flag bearers [Terry Bywater and Lucy Shuker] they had been chosen by their team-mates to carry the flag. This is my 11th Paralympic Games with GB and I'm a sport nut, this environment is incredibly special.

"The environment grabbed me and I have been here since 2001.

"The athlete village is the heart of the Games. Different languages and different ways of doing things - we have a fabulous building.

"It's a special environment. We want to make a home-from-home environment so athletes are comfortable.

"It's a highly focused performance environment."

Great Britain's David Smith (BC1) and Patrick Wilson (BC3) won their initial preliminary pool rounds in boccia earlier today.

Smith beat Brazil's Jose Oliveira 5-2 in his first pool victory. The 35-year-old from Eastleigh said: "I was really nervous and I think it showed in the first couple of ends, I was pumped up. The problem was I was so up for the first two ends and then I relaxed.

“It was a massively important win. It’s a pool of three and I don’t know what’s going to happen. It could go either way to be honest. So it’s still all to play for and that’s why I would have liked a few more points for a bit of security."

Wilson won an all-GB round against Will Arnott 5-3 and said: “It was a difficult match but I got through it. It was important to get through it. It’s always a bit awkward to play against a team-mate but we did it in the right way. I’m excited to get out there and try to get my second win. I’ve got to be good to do that.”

Arnott said: "It’s a disappointing result. I’m in the late game tomorrow night so I’ll have some time to decompress, go through that game and come back refreshed.”

On playing a team-mate, Arnott added: “It's difficult. There was quite a good chance of playing him but it does feel different. We know each other so well, we’ve come into this having played eight or nine training matches against each other in the week leading up to this. It’s always going to be a challenge but it’s something you get used to."

At the archery today, Great Britain's Jodie Grinham, who is seven months pregnant, shot a personal best 693 to rank fourth in the women’s compound.

Grinham told BBC Wales Sport afterwards: "I'm absolutely ecstatic. I've shot a personal best so I performed, I did my best. There's still a few shots there that I know I can gain points on which is always good to hear.

"We very much have put the time and effort in to make sure I've got the stamina. I'm in a good position, baby's in a good position. I've got the food, hydration, everything I need.

"I've also got medical staff on hand over at the side so that if anything did happen I've got them there.

"I still feel really good. It means I haven't completely used all my resources and the training has paid off.

"I said (from) day dot I'm not just going (to Paris) to participate. I'm going to compete, I'm going to be in that competition. I want to bring medals back.

"Pregnancy or not, I am still a world-leading athlete and the pregnancy shouldn't be changing that."

She said later in the media mixed zone: "If I worked in an office they’d be fine for me working there until I’m 39 weeks pregnant. So what’s the difference for me competing at the Paralympics?

“I want to be a mother and an athlete. I'm not willing to sacrifice either of them.”

Tully Kearney wins gold in the women's S5 200m freestyle final for Great Britain!

The fastest in qualifying and the fastest in the final, that was an excellent performance from the current world record holder in this event.

Ukraine's Iryna Poida led for much of that race, but Kearney was never that far behind.

On the turn with 50 metres to go, a big push from Kearney saw her go ahead of Poida and from there, despite Poida closing the gap in the final few metres, it was Kearney's to win and she made no mistake.

Two golds, three silvers and a bronze for GB on day one in Paris.

Poida finished in second to win silver and it is a bronze medal for Monica Boggioni.
