Brock Whiston won the silver medal in the women's SB8 100m breaststroke and spoke to Channel 4 afterwards:

"I’ve done a lot faster this season. I’m just really disappointed in myself. I know you can’t control what other athletes are doing but my own time wasn’t quick for me.

"I just feel disappointed that I let everyone down.

"I think I just got a bit nervous on the first 50 and then I don’t know what happened if I am honest.

"I’m just really disappointed but I just want to say a massive someone at home, because they were always there for me. I’m so sorry."

The first member of the Paralympic Refugee team to win a medal says she hopes her achievement "sends a message for all the refugees in the world to follow hope, follow freedom and follow peace".

Zakia Khudadadi, from Afghanistan, won bronze in the K44 -47kg Para-taekwondo category in Paris.

The 25-year-old is based in the French capital and is one of eight members of the Paralympic Refugee Team competing at the 2024 Paralympics.

She represented her country in Tokyo three years ago after being safely evacuated in the days prior to the Games when the Taliban swept into the Afghan capital, Kabul, and seized power, as foreign forces hastily completed their withdrawal.

The Taliban government has placed heavy restrictions on women's rightsin Afghanistan. Protesters have told the BBC they were beaten, abused, jailed and even threatened with death by stoning.

"Today, in my country, life is not easy for all the women and girls in Afghanistan because Taliban is in Afghanistan," Khudadadi told the BBC.

"Everything is finished for all the women. Maybe for this medal all the women continue life and continue the fight with Taliban. Maybe [one day] we are together with peace in my country."

    Para athletics - men's 5000m T54 round one

It is Marcel Hug who takes victory in the first of two men's 5000m T54 heats and qualifies for Saturday's final - but GB's Daniel Sidbury withdraws mid-race.

Hug's silver helmet has seen him dubbed the Silver Bullet - but he is certainly no stranger to gold.

The 38-year-old will be aiming to add to his six Paralympic titles at the Stade de France, having claimed four golds in Tokyo three years ago.

Second best to Britain's David Weir at London 2012, the Swiss won his first Paralympic golds in Rio in the T54 800m and marathon, before completing a clean sweep of wins in the 800m, 1500m, 5,000m and marathon in Tokyo and adding three world golds on the track in Paris last year.

Can anybody stop him repeating his quadruple haul in 2024?

ParalympicsGB legend David Weir has six Paralympic golds and 10 medals to his name, with this his seventh Games after making his debut as a 17-year-old in Atlanta 28 years ago.

The 45-year-old, an eight-time London Marathon champion, last medalled at London 2012 when he won four golds - but he has vowed that he is not in Paris just to make up the numbers.

Weir broke the T54 5,000m British record in February, finishing just 0.2 seconds behind Marcel Hug as the Swiss set a new world record time of nine minutes 13.81 seconds in Dubai.

He has also set new personal bests over 800m and 1500m, despite previously retiring from track competition.

"I've got my spark back, I feel like I'm 10 years younger," he told BBC Sport earlier this year.

"It was a shock to me in Dubai because I didn't think I could keep up with the guys but I raced really well."

It was Hug who took the T54 5,000m title in Tokyo three years ago, one of four golds he won at those Games.

ParalympicsGB history maker Rachel Choong has just started her first women's singles SH6 group match at La Chapelle Arena.

Choong, 30, is the first female to represent Great Britain in the sport at a Paralympic Games and faces Peru's Rubi Milagros Fernandez Vargas.

She had to watch from the sidelines as badminton made its Paralympic debut in Tokyo, with her SH6 category for short stature athletes not part of the inaugural programme, but her life changed in late 2021 when it was confirmed for Paris.

Choong, who has a Chinese-Malaysian background, has been competing internationally since 2008 and made her World Championship debut in 2013, winning gold in the women’s singles and mixed doubles. She has gone on to regularly accrue major championship singles and doubles medals since then.

As well as the singles, where she is world number three, she has a medal chance in the mixed doubles alongside partner Jack Shephard - the top pairing in the world - however they lost their opening group match on Thursday.
