Truro manager Lee Hodges says Salisbury draw was 'fortunate'

Truro manager Lee Hodges said his side were 'fortunate' after Andy Walker's late penalty earned a draw against Salisbury City.

Barry Hayles had given the hosts an early lead only for a Marvin Williams brace to turn the game on its head.

Hayles was then brought down in the area in stoppage time, leaving Walker to slot home from the spot.

"We were fortunate, but it was another point towards where we want to be," Hodges told BBC Radio Cornwall.

Hodges was unhappy with his side's negative second half display and was particularly critical of the defending of the corner that lead to Salisbury's second goal.

"You've got to be bright and sharp. Nobody is screaming at each other about the short corner, we've got our backs turned and we've been punished. I was so angry about that, really disappointed," he said.

"We came out second half and stopped doing what we had been doing in the first half. We tried to play in front of them, we never turned them. We stopped doing what was getting us some joy in the first half.

"As a result of that we never got out of our half which makes you sit deeper and deeper. It just looked like we were eventually going to concede.

"We've managed to salvage a point that looked like it might have never come."

The White Tigers handed a debut to new signing Adam Kelly, who set up Hayles for the first with a looping ball into the Salisbury box, and Hodges was impressed by his contribution.

"He's a great addition. We're really pleased to have him on board and I think he worked really hard today," he concluded.
