Ian Bogie: Gateshead sack manager

Gateshead have sacked manager Ian Bogie after a run of four Blue Square Bet Premier games without a win.

The Tynesiders, who operate on a full-time basis, were expected to challenge for promotion but are currently in 14th place with only six wins from 22 games.

Bogie had been in permanent charge since 2007 and led the club from the Northern Premier to the Conference's top flight in his first two seasons.

Assistant manager Terry Mitchell has also left the club.

Mitchell joined the club from Hartlepool in 2010, where he had been a youth coach.

Bogie established the club in English football's fifth tier, and last season Gateshead were promotion challengers before finishing eighth.

However, last summer has proved difficult despite investment from chairman Graham Wood in players such as ex-Hartlepool striker James Brown.

Gary Brabin, a former Gateshead player, Neil Aspin and recently-departed Fleetwood boss Micky Mellon are among the names linked with the vacancy.
