Liam Daish: Ebbsfleet United boss urges team to play for pride

Ebbsfleet United manager Liam Daish has called on his squad to play for pride in the remainder of the Blue Square Bet Premier campaign.

Tuesday's 1-1 draw with Nuneaton leaves the Fleet 12 points from safety with only four games of the season left.

Daish told BBC Radio Kent: "It's been a long season. We want to play for personal pride and come out with a bit of credit.

"We want as many points as we can get and that will not change."

Although not mathematically relegated yet, Fleet need to win all their remaining games and achieve a goal difference swing of 17 in their favour in order to surpass 20th-placed Lincoln City.

Even then, they would need to hope that neither Stockport nor Barrow do not pass the 50-point mark.

"In the whole season, we haven't defended well enough," said Daish.

"We have conceded too many goals and I think our centre-halves, collectively, have not shown the consistency needed."

He added: "[I don't know] whether this league is too strong for us as a club, with the travelling and our status [as a part-time club].

"I know there are clubs above us which have the same status as us and are going to be safe.

"I am not trying to make excuses but there is a lot which has gone against us this year. You need a few breaks this year and we have not had much luck."

"We have got to finish the season as strong as we can and reflect on everything after the last game away at Gateshead."
