Wayne Hatswell has rejoined Football League newcomers Newport County as first team coach.

The ex-Cambridge United defender joined Newport as a player-coach in 2011.

Hatswell, 38, was part of the Newport side that reached the FA Trophy final in 2012 but left at the end of that season.

"He's an excellent coach and been there as a player and his experience and professionalism can only benefit the club," manager Justin Edinburgh said.

"Hats is great person to have around the place and both Jimmy [Dack, assistant manager] and I look forward to working with him again in what will be an exciting season ahead."

Hatswell, who made over 400 Football League appearances, also played for Kidderminster Harriers, Chester City, Forest Green Rovers, Rushden and Diamonds, Oxford United and Dundalk.

Newport secured promotion to League Two after a 2-0 win over Wrexham in the Conference Premier promotion final at Wembley.
