Wales and Ipswich Town midfielder Jonathan Williams says he expects Cardiff City to push for promotion this season.

The Bluebirds marked Russell Slade's first game in charge with a 2-1 win over previously unbeaten Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Cardiff host Ipswich on Tuesday night and Williams expects a difficult game.

"They're a top team and they'll be there or thereabouts," said Williams, on loan from Crystal Palace.

"They've only just come down from the Premiership so they've got Premier League quality in the team."

The Bluebirds are 12th in the Championship, four points behind Ipswich who occupy the final play-off place.

Slade, who left Leyton Orient to join the Bluebirds, believes Cardiff can still win promotion despite their slow start to the season.

Williams, 21, is well acquainted with the Cardiff City Stadium having played 83 minutes of Wales' 0-0 draw with Bosnia-Hercegovina in a recent Euro 2016 qualifier.

"It feels like I've been living there the last few weeks," said the playmaker, who missed the 2-1 win against Cyprus because of an ankle injury.

"It's a nice ground and a nice pitch, so hopefully we can go there and take the three points."

Ipswich are unbeaten in the last eight games and are within three points of the automatic promotion places.

Williams says there has been a new emphasis on attacking football this season under manager Mick McCarthy.

"It doesn't really matter whether we're playing home or away, we go out to attack teams.

"We've been unlucky not to pick up more points on the road this season."

Williams, who was born in Pembury, Kent, qualifies for Wales through his Anglesey-born father and has represented Wales at every level from Under-15.

He made his international debut in a 2-1 World Cup qualifying win in Scotland last year and is confident Wales can qualify for Euro 2016 in France.

"It's fantastic, I love going away with Wales," he said.

"The boys are really bonding now and I think it's time to believe. We've got seven points out of nine. We've done all we can so far.

"It would be fantastic if two, three or maybe four [home nations] made it into the finals."
