Building work on Truro City's new stadium has been delayed.

Construction of the arena on the Silver Bow site on the outskirts of the city was due to start this month, but will now not begin until January 2017.

Cornwall Council are currently considering plans for the ground, which got outline approval in 2015.

"We are now awaiting a decision from them, which we are expecting within the next fortnight," Truro chairman Peter Masters said on the club website.

In April, Masters said his aim was to have the 4,000-capacity ground ready by July 2017 having cancelled plans to share Torquay United's Plainmoor ground this season.

National League South Truro's current home at Treyew Road has been sold to developers who aim to build a retail park on the site.

"The cost is creeping up all of the time, so it's in the best interests of all concerned to get the project moving and the stadium built," added Masters in a statement.

"It's an extremely intense project, which is taking up all of my working week, and I can assure you that there is a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes by a number of people.

"Our main objective this season, both on and off the field, is to ensure that a solid platform and infrastructure is put in place ready for when we move to the new stadium in order that the football club is in a position to really make forward strides."
