Niko Kranjcar: Rangers midfielder out for six months with cruciate damage

Rangers' Niko Kranjcar faces six months out due to cruciate ligament damage, manager Mark Warburton has confirmed.

The former Croatia midfielder, 32, was injured in training, and last played on 14 October.

"Everyone in the building is so disappointed for him," Warburton was quoted on Rangers' Twitter feed.

"We might look for a loan option in January. We need to have strength and depth. We'll see how the squad is shaping up come then."

Kranjcar, who had spells in England with Queens Park Rangers, Portsmouth and Tottenham Hotspur, joined Rangers this summer after a short stint with New York Cosmos.

"He's currently having it reconstructed by one of the best surgeons down in London," Warburton of the Croat's knee.

Rangers striker Joe Garner added: "Niko is a top player and it is good for the young boys to have him around. Hopefully he comes back stronger."
