Scott McDonald and Jamie Robson sent Dundee United into a 2-0 lead

Dundee United moved top of the Championship courtesy of a comfortable win over struggling Falkirk.

United dominated from the first whistle and were rewarded when Scott McDonald flicked the ball over his head and into the net from Jamie Robson's cross.

After a spell of pressure Robson turned sharply and knocked the second into the bottom corner, and Willo Flood added a third before the break.

Both sides had chances in the second half but could not add to the scoring.

Dundee United, in manager Csaba Laszlo's second match in charge, are now on 26 points, three clear of St Mirren, but the Tannadice men have played a game more.

Falkirk remain second-from-bottom of the Championship with nine points from their opening 13 matches.

Post-match reaction

Dundee United manager Csaba Laszlo: "I am happy and I congratulate the players.

"They already understand what I want and what type of football I want to play.

"It's always nice to score three goals and we had the chance for more."

Falkirk manager Paul Hartley: "Everything went wrong. We were second best from the first whistle, we were out-fought, out-thought and out-ran.

"The scoreline could have been worse if it wasn't for our goalkeeper today."
