Alan Sheehan says his future will be decided next week as he continues negotiations over a deal to become Swansea City's permanent head coach.

Sheehan, 38, has enjoyed a positive spell as caretaker boss since taking the reins following the departure of Luke Williams in February.

Swansea have taken time to consider their managerial options, but have now decided Sheehan is the man to lead the Championship club next season.

BBC Sport Wales reported on Friday that discussions over a long-term contract had begun.

Speaking after defeat at Millwall on Saturday, Sheehan said: "I can confirm that we have been talking for a bit, Richard [Montague, Swansea's director of football] and the ownership.

"It's moving in a direction and we should have had a conclusion to it all next week."

Sheehan has made no secret of his desire to manage Swansea on a permanent basis having taken temporary charge for a second time.

He took 11 points from seven games at the helm following the departure of Michael Duff in December 2023, and has 23 points from 12 matches in his current spell.

The Millwall loss wiped out Swansea's very faint play-off chances, but they remain well placed in 11th having had relegation concerns when Sheehan was placed in charge after a run of seven defeats in nine league matches saw Williams depart.

Swansea finish the season with a home game against Oxford United – who guaranteed their Championship status for next season by beating Sunderland this weekend - on Saturday, 3 May.
