  1. Qarabag are 'very intense'published at 14:31 GMT

Qarabağ v Chelsea (Wed, 17:45 GMT)

    Chelsea

Enzo Maresca on whether he needs to take Qarabag seriously: "Absolutely yes. It is going to be a tough game for different reasons...as a team they are a very good, they beat Benfica and Copenhagen and are a very intense team because of the way they press. They have worked with the same manager for many, many years. They are more intense at home. It will be a tough game."

I'm a City supporter and to be fair I also want to throw a ball at Gabriel's head most of the time, but it was out of order. He also should have kept the "stay humble" to himself, I don't care about him *responding* to Lewis-Skelly on the pitch though.

Enzo Maresca could not be quite so confident about any impending return from injury for Cole Palmer.

The Chelsea boss was asked whether the England forward might be fit to face Barcelona after the international break: "We hope so, but we will review after. We go day by day. We also have [Benoit] Badiashile who can be back after the international break, which is huge news."

On what the side is missing with Palmer on the sidelines, he added: "I would love to have Cole here tomorrow and for every game. I have said many times that we are a better team with Cole but unfortunately he's injured. For sure, we want him back very soon."

Let's start with some team news.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca said that Pedro Neto was out of Wednesday's Champions League tie:

"Not a problem, just a small issue. We will try to protect him. He is not involved in tomorrow's game."

  5. Uefa give Chelsea special dispensationpublished at 14:16 GMT

Qarabag v Chelsea (Wed, 17:30 GMT)

    Nizaar Kinsella
    BBC Sport Chelsea reporter

Chelsea were given special dispensation by Uefa to conduct their pre-match news conference at their own training ground - hence the lunchtime start.

The idea was to optimise the travel arrangements for the upcoming match in Azerbaijan against Qarabag and mitigate the five-and-a-half-hour flight to the Caucus region.

There was also the issue of the four-hour time difference to manage.

  7. 'Last season was not ideal for this club'published at 14:09 GMT

Man City v Borussia Dortmund (Wed, 20:00 GMT)

    Manchester City

A final word from Erling Haaland on the drive Manchester City's squad has to do well in the Champions League after last season: "It is not nice to lose games and to lose the FA Cup final, come third in the Premier League and go out early in the Champions League is not ideal for this club.

"We all know we need to do better, we need to be more stable, we need to perform better when it matters and we are motivated and ready for what is next.

"In the end you need to take it game by game and, as I said before, my focus is on Borussia Dortmund tomorrow."

  9. 'I hate being offside'published at 14:05 GMT

Man City v Borussia Dortmund (Wed, 20:00 GMT)

    Manchester City

Manchester City forward Erling Haaland on barely being caught offside this season: "It is not the first season that I am barely offside. I think it started from when I was 13 years old and trying to be onside. It is not the first season. I think from when I came to City I have been offside 18 times. Eighteen times in three-and-a-half years is OK, I think. It is a thing that is in my game. I hate being offside.

"If you are offside now with VAR you have no chance and I think VAR helped me even more because you get the decision, it is as simple as that.

"It is something that I have worked on since I was 13 years old in Bryne and I am still playing the same kind of way from when I was 13. Just now, I am quicker, better, faster and play for Manchester City instead of Bryne."

  10. Don't mention the 'O' wordpublished at 14:01 GMT

    Craig Nelson
    BBC Sport reporter

If you are wondering why we are still bringing you Erling Haaland quotes, it's because he talked for a long time on a wide variety of topics and was very interesting.

He was also very mild-mannered and relaxed in the main, until someone mentioned the word offside and his face changed in an instant.

You get the impression Erling Haaland really doesn't like being given offside...referee's assistants and VAR operators everywhere, you have been warned!

  11. 'Becoming a father helped me focus even more'published at 13:58 GMT

Man City v Borussia Dortmund (Wed, 20:00 GMT)

    Manchester City

Manchester City forward Erling Haaland was asked whether becoming a father has changed him: "Without a doubt. Suddenly there is someone waking up every morning. Before it was different. I think it got me even more focused because I can kind of switch off even more. In the end you need the balance between focusing and not focus at all. It helped me focus even more, yes."

  12. 'Cherki has a special ability a bit like De Bruyne had'published at 13:55 GMT

Man City v Borussia Dortmund (Wed, 20:00 GMT)

    Manchester City

Manchester City forward Erling Haaland on Rayan Cherki and what he is like as a team-mate: "He is a good guy with some amazing qualities as we can all see. In the end it is about playing football where we can get the best out of everyone on the pitch. It is the same with him.

"We need to help him in his free mind as a number 10 to pass the ball to me and the attacking players because he has this kind of special ability that is difficult to explain. A little bit like Kevin [De Bruyne] had where he can just pass someone through from wherever on the pitch.

"He is a special talent and we need to help him develop even more because he can be really good."

  13. 'It is a special game'published at 13:54 GMT

Man City v Borussia Dortmund (Wed, 20:00 GMT)

    Manchester City

More from Erling Haaland on whether he still has friends at Wednesday's opponents Borussia Dortmund: "Yes, I still have a few friends. A lot in the staff still and people I still speak with. I had an amazing time in Dortmund. It is an amazing club with amazing people. I have just good things to say about them. When I think back of all my memories, there are so many good ones in those two-and-a-half years. It is a special game."

  14. 'It is the same Erling but with more experience'published at 13:48 GMT

Man City v Borussia Dortmund (Wed, 20:00 GMT)

    Manchester City

Manchester City forward Erling Haaland was asked if he has changed off the pitch now to the player he was at Borussia Dortmund: "I am the completely same person from as long as I can remember. Nothing has changed. I am still the same kid in some situations and I am still that kid from Bryne but with more experience in life.

"I am more experienced of course because I have been playing on a professional level since I was 16. In football but in life. I have been living alone for nine years which also helped me a lot as a person. I have lived in loads of different countries and spoken loads of different languages. It is the same Erling but with more experience."

  15. 'The main goal in my career is to take Norway to the World Cup'published at 13:44 GMT

Man City v Borussia Dortmund (Wed, 20:00 GMT)

    Manchester City

Manchester City forward Erling Haaland on what it would mean to him to play for Norway in the World Cup: "In a few weeks there are a few games both in Norway and Italy for us as a whole nation which is going to be interesting. The last World Cup [for Norway] was in 1998, two years before I was born, so I've been saying this for a long time. My goal is to take Norway to a World Cup and Euros. This is the main goal in my career and now I have a good chance to do it so it's about taking the chances."

On whether he watches tournaments in the summer: "Yes, I am a football fan so I have been watching as long as I can remember. The first I remember the most is South Africa in 2010. I was 10-years-old. I am a football fan and I live for football."

  17. No time to rest in a World Cup seasonpublished at 13:34 GMT

    Craig Nelson
    BBC Sport reporter

When footballers say they take it one game at a time, that mantra could be well worn by the end of this season.

Any players that look too far ahead, especially those who played in the Club World Cup over the summer, face the danger of being overwhelmed.

Those who make it to this season's Champions League final will take part in the showpiece in Budapest on 30 May.

The World Cup finals start in Mexico City just 12 days later, on 11 June.

  18. Haaland on his feeling coming into 2025-26published at 13:30 GMT

Man City v Borussia Dortmund (Wed, 20:00 GMT)

    Manchester City

    Erling HaalandImage source, Getty Images

Manchester City forward Erling Haaland was asked about if he felt different going into this season: "I don't know. I think it is more the feeling. I felt really good in pre-season even though our pre-season was like two weeks. I felt really good, I felt energised. In the end, you need the energy and you need to feel good to perform good and from the first second I felt overloaded with energy and ready to go again. That was my thought."

  20. 'I do not think about records'published at 13:27 GMT

Man City v Borussia Dortmund (Wed, 20:00 GMT)

    Manchester City

Manchester City forward Erling Haaland on whether he thinks about Premier League goalscoring records such as Alan Shearer's total of 260 goals: "I have to ignore them. I don't really know any records but I know his Premier League one. Again, it is not something I can think about. Thinking about records I can break is the last thing on my mind, I try to help the team win football games. That is my job and that is my main focus.

"I know it's boring, I know you want me to say the complete opposite but that's not how it is."
