Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes tells BBC Scotland: "We said regardless of the outcome, we were immensely proud. I tried to give them real belief pre-match.

"We had to plant a seed of doubt and we did that. They had a couple of moments on transitions and we knew that's where we would be vulnerable.

"I thought Kieran O'Hara was terrific, some fantastic saves.

"We gave ourselves a chance tonight, that's the thing. I don't think they enjoyed the game."

  4. How does the Conference League work?published at 22:06 British Summer Time 29 August 2024

Well, it's also been revamped like the Champions League and Europa League.

All teams compete in a new 36-team 'league phase', but there are six pots rather than eight.

That means there are six fixtures for Hearts against six different opponents, with Chelsea, Gent and Copenhagen, who just beat Kilmarnock over two legs, among them.

The draw takes place tomorrow at 13:30 BST.

Hearts goalkeeper Craig Gordon tells BBC Scotland: "Disappointed. I don't think we're far away. There was an opportunity there to win the tie. Having said that, I think the better team over the two legs has gone through, we didn't create enough.

"We didn't look like scoring for large spells. They've managed to get one and the better chances in the game were theirs."

On the mistakes leading to goals, Gordon said: "Everybody's responsible as a team. We've got to cut it out, we've got to stop it. We're beating ourselves more often than not.

"It's crazy stuff. I can't really understand why it's happening and in a such a short space of time.

"But we're a good enough team to bounce back and we need to do that on Sunday [against Dundee United]."

  6. 'It's definitely not clicking at the moment' - Naismithpublished at 22:00 British Summer Time 29 August 2024

FT: Hearts 0-1 Viktoria Plzen (agg 0-2)

Hearts head coach Steven Naismith tells BBC Scotland: "We lacked quality in the final third, we did well to get the crowd going at the start but never had any real quality.

"Things fizzled out far too often. The game got away from us with another cheap goal, that's the story of the season so far.

"The way Plzen managed the game, defended their box and created chances showed why they are consistently in Europe.

"We were more in hope than expectation. We're not getting the quality we want. It's definitely not clicking at the moment."

Naismith adds that he is hoping Lawrence Shankland is fit to return at the weekend.

I don't think Hearts will sit in the dressing room and think they did enough to win the game.

They looked like a side that doesn't know what they are at the minute.

Kye Rowles is in a bit of pain but he's back on his feet, gingerly, and is limping into the box for the corner, which comes to nothing.
