Aidan Fitzpatrick's late goal earned Partick Thistle all three points

Aidan Fitzpatrick's 88th-minute strike earned Partick Thistle their second Scottish Championship win of the season and downed Dunfermline Athletic at Firhill.

A scrappy contest lacking in chances and quality looked destined to end goalless before Fitzpatrick evaded a couple of tackles and fired a left-footed shot under Dunfermline keeper Deniz Mehmet.

Aaron Muirhead had earlier hit the bar for the hosts from a Fitzpatrick free-kick, while Kane Ritchie-Hosler and Sam Fisher had the best chances for Dunfermline.

Thistle are fourth in the Scottish Championship, with Dunfermline sitting eighth.

What they said

Partick Thistle manager Kris Doolan: "There's no settling in period for Kanayo Megwa. He kind of knows where our threats are, and he's just came in and settled in instantly.

"I thought he was absolutely terrific today. I think you can see the effect he'll have on the crowd, on other players but I thought going forward he was a real threat. Defensively I thought he was brilliant as well."

Dunfermline Athletic manager James McPake: "Being hard to break down isn't enough in this league. Teams will punish you if you don't take a rest on the ball.

"They're pretty direct and really effectively at the top end of the pitch and they ask loads of questions."
