10-man PSV hold onto victory over Red Star Belgrade

PSV Eindhoven held off a second-half fightback from Red Star Belgrade to gain a vital Champions League win.

The Dutch side stormed into a 3-0 lead after only 43 minutes following goals from Luuk de Jong, Guus Til and Ryan Flamengo as they looked to be cruising to victory.

However, the 50th-minute dismissal of Flamengo, shown a straight red card after fouling Nemanja Radonjic, changed the game.

The Serbian champions scored twice in a six-minute period through Cherif Ndiaye and Nasser Djiga to give themselves hope of securing an excellent recovery, but they could not force an equaliser.

The result ensures Red Star, 31st in the table, cannot advance to the knockout phase, while PSV are currently 16th and on course to secure a play-off match.

PSV entertain leaders Liverpool in their final league phase game, with the Reds having already guaranteed a place in the last 16.

Red Star end their campaign with an away game at Swiss outfit Young Boys, another side that are already eliminated.
