  4. 'If we keep putting in performances like that who knows where we could go'published at 14:39 British Summer Time

FT: Man City 2-1 Aston Villa

    Manchester City

Player of the match Lauren Hemp on BBC Two: "It feels great, obviously the aim was to win. We managed to do it. We seem to keep doing it the hard way but we got three points in the end.

"Going into the international [break] unbeaten is the aim and games like that last season we would have probably conceded and gone on to draw so it’s important we learned from that and this season put things right and beat them. It was a tough game and credit to them."

On her goal and assist: “The goal, it was a good cross, she managed to get her hand to it, so I just tried to get anything on it, and it happened to come off my head. I knew the goalkeeper was off her line so I just tried to kick it over her and it managed to do the trick.

“I think it was important to get an early goal in that second half, it gave us a lot of time to get a second and obviously I knew where Jill [Roord] was gonna be. We’ve got a good connection, we’ve trained hard to work on that. It was a great finish by her."

On how important their good start to the season has been: “So important, this team is here to win, we wanna win trophies, our aim is to do that this season.

“It was heartbreak for us last season when we didn't manage to win the title, that’s one of our aims this season. Hopefully if we keep putting in performances like that who knows where we could go.”

Leicester City boss Amandine Miquel has urged the club's fans not to "give up" after the side's tough start to the season.

The Foxes remain winless after four games, picking up just two points and scoring just one goal. However Miquel believes that her side just need to build confidence to turn things around.

"It's about getting confidence going in the squad as I know we have the qualities in forward areas, and once we get that second goal (of the season), it opens up a bit and people will relax," she said.

Miquel added, "The fans have been excellent and they need to stay patient. It will come and at some point, you will be rewarded."

That was a very good performance, it wasn't City's best. They weren't as exciting to watch as I've seen them before this season but if you want to be title contenders, you've got to be able to come back from a goal down, you've got to be able to win matches when you're not at your best.
