    Man City 2-1 Aston Villa

Khadija Shaw goes clear through on goal to double City's lead but is judged offside.

To make it worse, Shaw still takes the shot on, but is saved by Sabrina D'Angelo.

  2. Postpublished at 13:47 British Summer Time

    Man City 2-1 Aston Villa

Almost a third for Manchester City.

Khadija Shaw has had quite a quiet afternoon, but she gets a headed chance thanks to Lauren Hemp's cross from the left.

A good header, but steered across goal and wide of the far post.

  3. 'It's like she's never been away'published at 13:46 British Summer Time

    Man City 2-1 Aston Villa

    Siobhan Chamberlain
Ex-England and Man Utd goalkeeper on BBC Two

It's a fantastic finish but it's all in the footwork from Lauren Hemp. She goes inside, she goes outside, she takes a touch.

She doesn't just deliver it into the box, she picks Roord out perfectly.

She cuts it back and Roord fires it into the back of net with so much composure, so much power.

It's like she's never been away.

Man City lead! Outstanding work from Lauren Hemp.

Jill Roord with the finish from inside the box, she takes a touch before thumping a side-footed finish past Sabrina D'Angelo to give the hosts the lead.

That goal was all about Hemp, though. On the left side, she danced through three Aston Villa players before cutting back to tee up Roord.

City have not been at their best today, but Hemp has been excellent.

A clinical and important finish from Roord.

    Man City 1-1 Aston Villa

The foul weather that swept across the north west of England this morning has broken - for now anyway. Warm-ups are complete and we're nearly ready to get going in this one.

  7. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 13:40 British Summer Time

    Man City 1-1 Aston Villa

A couple of changes for Aston Villa.

Goalscorer Gabi Nunes and Kirsty Hanson, who set up that opener, are off.

Ebony Salmon and Chasity Grant replace them.

  8. 'She reacted quickest and it's a fantastic finish'published at 13:38 British Summer Time

    Man City 1-1 Aston Villa

    Siobhan Chamberlain
Ex-England and Man Utd goalkeeper on BBC Two

    It was inevitable.

She has been City's best player so far today and as the ball comes in D'Angelo thought she could get enough on it, she made connection but it didn't clear Hemp, she reacted quickest and it's a fantastic finish.

At the perfect time Manchester City are back in this game.

  9. goal

GOAL - Manchester City 1-1 Aston Villapublished at 13:35 British Summer Time

    Lauren Hemp (62 mins)

    Hemp makes it 1-1

Manchester City level and it had to be Lauren Hemp! Who else?

A very clever finish, helped by some rash goalkeeping from Sabrina D'Angelo.

Mary Fowler's cross from the left side was palmed out by D'Angelo onto the head of Hemp.

Having taken a touch with her head to knock it behind her, Hemp, with the ball behind her, hooked an improvised volley over the stranded D'Angelo to level up.

She really has been City's standout player today and if anyone deserved a goal today, it was her.

  10. 'You can see the frustration'published at 13:34 British Summer Time

    Man City 0-1 Aston Villa

    Siobhan Chamberlain
Ex-England and Man Utd goalkeeper on BBC Two

It just held up a bit too much for Alex Greenwood, she couldn't get the height she needed to make the connection.

You can see the frustration on her face after that attempt.

Same old, same old, from Manchester City Women. Lots of possession but little penetration. Caught on the break yet again. Shades of the Brighton game a year ago, City had 30+ attempts on goal but lost 0-1.

Back-to-back corners for City, the first of which is steered away by Villa captain Rachel Daly, more used to heading chances into the back of the net than out for an opposition corner.

Alex Greenwood gets on the end of the second at the back post, but cannot steer an effort on goal.

  13. 'City ramping up the tempo'published at 13:31 British Summer Time

    Man City 0-1 Aston Villa

City just ramping up the tempo of this game. They know that they need to get back into it, it's not vital they get a goal in the next couple of minutes but they need to get back into it.

Bunny Shaw is going to be crucial with that.

Lauren Hemp has been the spark is the spark of with City's latest move.

Down the right, she darts side onto the penalty area and stings a cross into Khadija Shaw, whose shot is blocked for another corner.

Villa hold on once more and at this stage, it really does feel like holding on.

  15. Postpublished at 13:30 British Summer Time

    Man City 0-1 Aston Villa

Danielle Turner fends off Khadija Shaw's run with the ball and stops her on the byline for another corner.

City take it quickly but again, Villa clear.

City are going more direct now.

  16. Postpublished at 13:28 British Summer Time

    Man City 0-1 Aston Villa

City whip in the corner with some pace, but Villa clear well.

Getting the ball into the box from set-pieces, which City were not doing enough of before half-time, will only ask more questions of Villa's back line.

  17. Postpublished at 13:26 British Summer Time

    Man City 0-1 Aston Villa

Better from City as Jess Park swings a cross into the penalty area from the right side.

Villa's Noelle Moritz gets there first to steer it out for a corner and the visitors have really had their backs to the wall so far in this half.

  18. 'City have got tricky, technical players'published at 13:24 British Summer Time

    Man City 0-1 Aston Villa

    Siobhan Chamberlain
Ex-England and Man Utd goalkeeper on BBC Two

City need to increase the tempo, they were playing at Villa's pace. They wanted to slow it down, they wanted to keep them calm, quiet.

They need to speed it up, keep the ball moving, get their players on the ball, in and around the 18-yard box because that's where they caused problems.

They've got tricky, technical players. If you can get them on the ball higher up the pitch they are going to cause more problems.

  19. Postpublished at 13:22 British Summer Time

Almost an opening for City Jess Park presses well at the Villa back line.

Good defending from Lucy Parker prevents anything from coming to fruition.

With all of City's dominance I think they now need to go and test that goalkeeper even more.
