The attention might be on Birmingham today but that might just suit Mansfield Town.

Having started the season with three straight wins, the Stags have found themselves dropping lower and lower down the pecking order.

A run of five winless games had put them in relegation danger but as of yesterday, thanks to Bristol Rovers' defeat, they were confirmed safe for another year of League One.

Today though, they face a team who are Championship-bound and ripping through League One opponents as if it's hardly a challenge.

But given that so many eyes were on Mansfield at the start of the campaign, can they draw them back now they are near the end with a shock victory over the team of the season?

Birmingham boss Chris Davies makes six changes to the side who beat Stevenage to clear 100 points.

Christoph Klarer is back into the starting XI donning the captain's armband

He's joined by Tomoki Iwata, Alex Cochrane, Ethan Laird, Jay Stansfield and Willum Willumsson.

Taylor Gardner-Hickman, Grant Hanley, Marc Leonard, Luke Harris and Alfie May all rotate to the bench but Lee Myung-jae isn't included in the matchday squad.

Lukas Jutkiewicz is named on the bench and could make his final appearance at St Andrew's before retiring at the end of the season.

While it could be an emphatic end to what has been a glorious season for Birmingham City, it will be a bittersweet one for striker Lukas Jutkiewicz.

The 36-year-old announced his retirement yesterday after nine years at St Andrew's, making 356 appearances so far for the side.

It won't be a complete goodbye as the Englishman will be staying with the club in an unspecified role but today will mark an end to his time on the St Andrew's pitch as a teammate.

You can read more about it here.

When Wolves reached the highest points tally ever in a League One season, they were under the guidance of Watford-born former Wales international Kenny Jackett.

Interestingly enough, Birmingham City's boss Chris Davies is a man from Watford who represented Wales at youth level.

Is that an omen for what's to come? Only if you believe in those kinds of things.

If you don't, then it might help you to look at the stats.

Birmingham are unbeaten across all of their 22 home league games this season (W18 D4) and if they keep that up today, it'll be the first time since 1971-72 they've managed an undefeated home record across a single season.

A draw will be enough to match Wolves' record but, even if they've got two more bites of the cherry to follow, it'll be a win they will want.

Given how their season has gone, you'd have to be brave to bet on them not taking the chance on their first attempt.

  7. Could Wolves' points record turn Blue?published at 14:33 British Summer Time 27 April

The current League One points tally record is 103, earned by Wolverhampton Wanderers during their 2013-14 title-winning season.

But now, Birmingham City are on the hunt and have three chances to break that barrier - but only one opportunity to do it at home. Today.

Blues didn't get to celebrate their promotion back to the Championship nor their League One title at St Andrew's this season.

They earned their promotion away at Peterborough, won the title on a day they weren't even on the grass thanks to a Wrexham draw and didn't manage to claim the EFL Vertu Trophy at Wembley.

They've been waiting for a jubilant moment with a big home crowd for a while - will they get it today?

Welcome one and all - are you ready to see some EFL history being made?

Today will be League One champions Birmingham City's final appearance at St Andrew's this season - and to mark the occasion, they are eyeing up an opportunity to beat the division's record for the most points across a single campaign.

The record is currently held by Wolves - Blues' local rivals who they haven't met since 2018 in the Championship.

Wanderers won that encounter 2-0 and while Blues won't get to meet face-to-face with their neighbours, stripping them of an EFL record will feel just as sweet.

But to do so, they need to get past Mansfield Town, who wouldn't mind spoiling the title-winners party.

Do they have it in them to stop the runaway train that has been Birmingham City? Stay tuned to find out.
