Manchester City defender Kyle Walker says it's "only good news" that manager Pep Guardiola has extended his stay with the Citizens.

Ipswich Town

Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna on injury latest: "There is a few who are going to be touch and go.

"We think we will have good availability over the next week or two. But Jacob [Greaves], Jack [Taylor], Kalvin [Phillips] has had a little issue since shortly after the Leicester game. Ben Johnson has had a little issue this week and there is a few others as well. So we have a few who are going to be touch and go for the game.

"George Hirst will be out with the injury he picked up in the Tottenham game which is really unfortunate.

"We are going to put out the team with think gives us the best chance to win the game and I think we have enough depth at the moment to be competitive in the match."

Aston Villa

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has confirmed that several of his players will be absent this weekend for the match against Crystal Palace.

When asked in his press conference who was unavailable, he said: "Konsa, Amadou Onana, Kamara and Ramsey.

"We are adding other players [to training] after small injuries like Cash and Barkley. We are going to try to feel confident with the players we have in the squad, trying to be ready when the opportunity to play is coming for them.

Pressed on Konsa and Onana specifically, he said: "They have small injuries.

"They have to rest and recover. Each day is important. Maybe [they] could come back for the next match, but I have to focus on the players we have now."

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner adds more on the absence of Eberechi Eze for Saturday's trip to Aston Villa:

"I had a long chat with him today because he's very ambitious, he's a great guy and he works really hard.

"He wanted to be with us, he felt like he was ready.

"Of course, I want him to play but we have to protect him and therefore yes we lose him for one game but we have 15 games in December and January and we need him for 15 games not just for one."

It was something of a surprise on Thursday night to learn Pep Guardiola had signed a two-year contract extension at Manchester City.

Along with many other journalists, I was under the impression Guardiola had agreed a single-year deal, with the option for another season if he still fancied it in 2026.

It seemed a reasonable enough question to ask for clarification at Guardiola's news conference this lunchtime.

And the answer was interesting.

Effectively, Guardiola said he had done it because he did not want to be in the same situation next season that he has been in this one - answering questions about his future virtually from the moment he returned for the start of pre-season.

That does not scream longevity.

Guardiola has never broken a contract but can it be completely ruled out that the second year is a convenient way of dealing with a issue the former Barcelona boss did not want to be bothered with and he will exit City in 18 months' time?

Manchester United first-team coach Darren Fletcher has seen his touchline ban reduced from three games to two games after an appeal.

Fletcher was initially handed a three game ban in relation to misconduct at United’s fixture against Brentford on Saturday 19 October in the Premier League.

The FA alleged that around the tunnel area at half time the coach acted in an improper and/or confrontational manner and/or that he used abusive and/or insulting words towards the fourth official and the referee and/or assistant referees.

Fletcher admitted to this misconduct, but argued that it was only towards the fourth official and the referee

An independent Appeal Board has allowed his appeal and reduced the extended touchline ban and fine to two matches and £6,000 (previously £7,500) respectively, and its written reasons will be published in due course.

Boss Gary O'Neil was his usual relaxed self in his press conference at Wolves' Compton training ground.

A crack about a reporter's red jumper looking too much like a Christmas one suggested if he is feeling the pressure, he is not showing it.

Wolves are unbeaten in three games, beating Southampton and drawing against Brighton and Crystal Palace, but are two points from the safety line ahead of Saturday's trip to Fulham.

O'Neil spoke about how the club is still stabilising - having sold top talent like Ruben Neves, Max Kilman and Pedro Neto over the last 17 months - and learning to work within different financial limits than before.

That is all true but O'Neil is also fully aware Wolves' need to maintain any momentum they have.

Fulham

Fulham boss Marco Silva was asked about fellow Portugese manager Ruben Amorim, who takes charge of his first Manchester United game on Sunday: "Firstly, he is a very good manager. I think it is a great challenge for him and he is more than ready for it.

"Of course I have already spoken with him. What I wish for him is always the best."

Fulham

Fulham boss Marco Silva provided a squad fitness update before Saturday's match against Wolves: "Sasa Lukic and Carlos Vinicius are available to be involved in the squad, or maybe in the 11. It's nice to see both back. They need more time to be back in [full] fitness.

"The bad news for us is about Harrison Reed. Yesterday he got a knee injury. After the exams, he's going to need surgery there. It will probably take five or six weeks for him to ready again. It's a meniscus injury."

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou on where his team is now and where he wants them to be:

"It's kind of mixed. We're definitely a better side than some of our results show.

"You want to improve your standing within the game and our results certainly haven't reflected that.

"I'm still bullish about our progress as a team. We've just got to push on to get that consistency as a team."

Wolves

Wolves boss Gary O'Neil on team news: "A few to check on but hopeful we will be okay. I'm confident we will be able to name a strong team tomorrow.

"A couple of checks and I don't want to give too much away today but I’m hopeful that we will be fine."

On Santiago Bueno fitness after he withdrew from international duty: "He has done some work on the grass, he will travel with us and hopeful he can make it."

On when Pedro Lima could play again: "He has missed a few weeks. I can't remember the game but he was meant to be coming off on 75 minutes but rolled his ankle on 70 so he has not trained for a while but I think he is nearing a return."

West Ham United

West Ham United manager Julen Lopetegui on Pep Guardiola signing a contract extension with Manchester City: "It's always good that the best coaches decide to continue in the Premier League and for sure, Pep is one of the best. I am happy for him, he is a friend of mine so yes, I am happy for him."

West Ham United

West Ham United manager Julen Lopetegui on reports he has two games to save his job: "The only thing I am focused on is to be able to be ready to go to Newcastle, in a very tough match against a very good team. We have to be ready to improve and overcome the difficulties that we are going to have as a team. That is the only thing I am focused on. The rest of the things, believe me, that is football, we are not focused on this."

On whether he has spoken to club owner David Sullivan about his future: "We talk every week. I am not going to tell you about what I speak to David about."

Arsenal

More from Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta on injured defender Takehiro Tomiyasu: "He is going to be away now for a few weeks to continue with his treatment and change his environment a bit.

"Physiologically it has been really tough for him because he's a guy that will work 24 hours to be fit and get better, and feels terrible being out. Hopefully it can unlock him.

"We will try to help him as quick as possible but I think we have to be patient."

Arsenal

Moving back to the rest of today's news conferences, here's Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta on meeting with the club's owners, the Kroenkes, during the international break: "It's always really positive to spend time together. We had time to talk about the windows and where we're taking the club after [former sporting director] Edu.

"It's a joy to spend time with them. They have so much experience in the sport. You feel the ambition in how close they live every day with us."

Ruben Amorim is the first managerial hire since Ineos took over the football operations at Old Trafford – so a lot is resting on him. It was noticeable that Tom Crotty - a senior director at the petrochemicals company - and a trusted advisor to billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe was in attendance.

However, if the coach was feeling the pressure that comes with that, and from being in one of the most scrutinised coaching roles in world football, he did not show it.

At the end, Amorim embraced several Portuguese reporters who had travelled here to cover his first media appearance. Whether he forges such close bonds with their British counterparts remains to be seen. But based on this first performance, communication will not be a problem for the coach.

This was a highly accomplished and assured first media conference by Ruben Amorim, whose confidence was immediately apparent as he strode purposefully into a packed room at Carrington with a smile and “hi guys” to the assembled journalists, before fielding a host of questions from both English and Portuguese reporters.

But this felt very different to the strained and adversarial media conferences that became a weekly feature of the final months of Erik ten Hag’s tenure at Old Trafford.

Speaking in fluent English, Amorim seemed to relish the opportunity to articulate how he is feeling. Smiling throughout, he made clear his belief both in himself and in his players, claiming he is "the right guy at the right moment".

But he also acknowledged the scale of the task he faces here after years of decline, and the need for his team to improve. However, he also firmly rejected the suggestion that this was 'the impossible job'. "Of course not," he said.

Manchester United

Ruben Amorim spoke at his news conference about his desire for his players to "be better at running back".

It's something our chief football news reporter Simon Stone noticed when the club released a video of one of Amorim's first training sessions.

Simon reported:

One of the major criticisms of recent United incarnations, going back long before Ten Hag's time, is a lack of work-rate, particularly when it comes to tracking back.

United are not saying who signed off the video edit but it seems fairly clear some thought has gone into what was released.

In possession and attacking, four times, players were shown chasing back hard after Amorim had given the signal for a lost ball and a counter-attack.

It was repeated so often in such a short space of time, it was as though someone at Old Trafford wanted it to be known Amorim is trying to address United's issues in transition.
