It had been coming for the visitors in fairness.

They've only ever beaten Man City once in the WSL (P13, L11, D1, W1), but that's a great start towards claiming the second one.

This is the perfect start for West Ham. The game plan you would have against Arsenal would be to sit in, defend and try to narrow the gaps through the central areas specifically.

They can do that now, without really even having to push forward. Their game plan is working and you can see them sucking the Arsenal players in.

West Ham are finding those little gaps to get it out to the other side but the players aren't quite getting out there quick enough to support.

A worry for Arsenal as suddenly Riko Ueki is in on the left but, to the relief of the visitors, the flag goes up for offside.

Bunny Shaw receives the ball to goal, turns and plays a wonderfully delicate through ball forward for Vivianne Miedema to chase.

She's favourite to reach it and get a shot away but Brighton stopper Chiamaka Nnadozie does well to smother the danger.

Arsenal are looking to respond to that setback quickly and attack down the right before Beth Mead's ball into the box is cleared.

That was a bit of a shocker wasn't it, let's be honest.

As soon as Shekiera Martinez hit that, I was wondering what she was doing and I was thinking what a terrible cross it was. It just looped in and Daphne van Domselaar just took her eye off the ball.

The Arsenal goalkeeper will be really, really disappointed with that.

Greenwood is left shaking her head as an awful back pass causes her to miscontrol behind for a Brighton corner.

The subsequent delivery is poor though and the chance is lost.

Brighton are gaining in confidence and are popping the ball about quite nicely.

Fran Kirby tries a quick give and go with Madison Haley on the edge of the box but City skipper Alex Greenwood reads it expertly to cut it out.

Finally a chance for Brighton to get forward after that early City seige.

They press the hosts high to force a mistake from Khiara Keating, yet Jelena Cankovic's long range effort sails over the corner of post and bar.

A nice move almost comes off for Arsenal as they open up the West Ham defence with some quick passing, but a ball to put through Beth Mead has too much on it.

Arsenal boss Renee Slegers was asked about Chloe Kelly's exclusion pre-match and told Sky Sports: "She has a little knock. She wasn't fully ready for today but hopefully she is back soon."

Arsenal have West Ham firmly under pressure in these early stages. They are passing the ball around nicely.

We're yet to close out the second minute at Joie Stadium and the hosts have just spurned another great chance.

Bunny Shaw pulls out wide to the right before picking out strike partner Vivianne Miedema in the middle but she can't find the target.
