Your thoughts on under pressure managers

  1. 'I haven't experienced a team playing this bad'published at 14:50 GMT

    Liverpool 1-4 PSV

    Liverpool

Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones: "I don't have the answers, I'm the same as everyone else. It's just unacceptable to be honest.

"I don't even have the words. I'm past being angry and sad. I'm at the point now where I just don't have the words.

"I'm playing from a player and a fan and I'm seeing it like this. I haven't experienced a team playing this bad and getting results like this but at the end of the day we still have that badge on our chest and until that badge goes, we are always going to fight and try and get this team back to where this team needs to be.

"We need to show the whole world why Liverpool are the best team in the world but as of now we are in the... and it needs to change."

  2. Get Involved - 'Slot solely responsible for current situation'published at 14:47 GMT

Some say Slot inherited Klopp’s team, however that team finished 3rd the season before. Slot made them champions. The bigger question is how a manager who was so tactically astute last season is now devoid of ideas. The control and balance synonymous with Liverpool last year has long since disappeared.

    Rahul

I think Slot should go now and give time for someone. The definition of stupid is doing the same wrong things continuously hoping for a different result. That is exactly what is happening

    Mike

Slot is in a different position to most managers under pressure. Rather than fine tune the successful squad assembled by Juergen Klopp he has made significant changes and spent a lot of money in the process. He is solely responsible for the current situation and must face the consequences.

  3. 'I would be gutted if they sack him'published at 14:45 GMT

Liverpool seem to keep finding ways to hit new lows under Arne Slot, and of course, that is leading to questions around the manager's future.

He will accept that as part of the pressure that comes with such a reputable job, but now the biggest question has become 'is he the right man to actually rescue a team from such a slump?'

I do not mind giving him the chance to have a go [at fixing this].

I just think, given what he achieved in such a short space of time and how that had this team so far ahead of their timeline, his bosses should keep the faith that he can get back on that road - back to where we belong.

If they were to sack him, I would be gutted that the man who brought me such brilliant days watching my team lift the league title last season could not work it out, but I would equally understand and try to trust the decision that had been taken.

I would hold reservations about the people sacking him being the same ones involved in the decision-making that led to such an imbalanced squad as it is at present.

But if I did not trust the process, there would be no point in any of this, really, would there?

  4. 'It has gone from a blip to a fully-blown crisis'published at 14:42 GMT

    Liverpool 1-4 PSV

    Lee Blakeman
Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live

It has gone from a blip, to a worry, to a fully-blown crisis.

This was a story of misplaced passes, poor defending, a lack of creativity in the wide areas and very questionable goalkeeping. Add to that Hugo Ekitike going off injured and Alexander Isak once again failing to convince when he came off the bench.

    A miserable night at Anfield.

The only player in Liverpool colours that can leave the field with any kind of positive next to his name is [Dominik] Szoboszlai.

He got the goal and tried to drive forward and create in midfield, but given the lack of support around him, he had absolutely no chance. A very, very worrying Liverpool performance.

Any fan calling for Slot out and replaced by "Stevie G" could do with new glasses. Liverpool have had terrible spells in season with the Sainted Klopp twice (2020/21 and 2022/23). More scrutiny needed of board/directors for spending so much money so badly in my view.

As a Liverpool fan I have never seen them play so bad yes we lost Jota but teams and players moved on I think Slot has lost it and time to go bring in Steve G.

Liverpool 'lack of intensity' exposed by PSV

Is there a "lack of intensity" in Liverpool's performances at the moment?

Former Liverpool defender and MOTD pundit Stephen Warnock believes so, adding that Liverpool aren't putting in the "hard yards" on the pitch.

Warnock said: "The hard yards aren't being done by Liverpool at the moment. They aren't recovering into positions enough and that's why they are suffering so much on counter attacks."

Right, we're clear on the news conference front for now.

We've got three more coming in 30 minutes time, including that man Arne Slot...

Let's have a big old run-up to him now and have some more of your texts surrounding what the future lies for the Reds boss.

Interestingly, that poll at the top of the page is close to a near even split still but the majority is slightly in the favour of giving him until the end of the season. Feel free to keep casting your votes as we go!

  9. Parker provides positive squad updatepublished at 14:29 GMT

Brentford v Burnley (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Burnley

A final update from the news conferences that have already taken place comes from Burnley manager Scott Parker, who provided a team news update: "We are shaping up okay, we have no real injury concerns. It is pretty much a fully fit squad other than the players that are out with longer term injuries. We are in a good place."

Funnily enough, I did see a bit of unrest on the old socials this week after Newcastle's defeat against Marseille.

Just social media noise, Magpies fans? Or a genuine bit of frustration there?

Not a Leeds fan but they are only 4 points behind Newcastle and I don't see people calling for Eddie Howe to be sacked. Some perspective needed surely!

  12. Squad rotation 'will happen'published at 14:23 GMT

Sunderland v Bournemouth (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Sunderland

Sunderland manager Regis le Bris confirmed there are no injury concerns before Saturday's game against Bournemouth, which "is a good sign".

He did, however, confirm there will be natural squad rotation to deal with a three-game week.

"I have had this conversation with the players," he said. "Consistency is key to develop a new squad so it is normal to keep the same starting XI, but now with many games in a row, organically it will happen.

"I think they are training well so they will be ready for these fixtures."

Slot won the League last season, the players could’ve downed tools then if they didn’t like him, but they didn’t. L’pool have spent a fortune & need to embed those players. It’s not even Christmas. Fans not happy cos they’re not used to losing. Got to give him time.

    Lloyd, Northamptonshire

I think Liverpool should stick with Slot. We have let players and managers in the past walk alone, which is not in our DNA. I believe it's only a blip and he can turn it around. Slot should stay till at least the end of the season and then reassess.

  14. Mitoma and Milner 'getting close' to a returnpublished at 14:17 GMT

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler on team news: "All the players who were available last weekend are still available."

Hurzeler added that James Milner and Karou Mitoma are "getting close" to a return, and he is confident both will be back before Christmas.

First up on today's news conference front we had Fabian Hurzeler who was speaking about summer transfer rumours potentially impacting the form of Carlos Baleba: "We are now four months into the season, we can't speak about these rumours anymore. It's about being a Brighton player, it's about performing here and getting him back to his best level.

"Avoid the noise, avoid all the rumours, and focus on things you can influence and the things you do best. That's football."

I think when looking at the odds for next Leeds manager if Farke is sacked anytime soon. I’d say the sensible decision would be to bring in Brendan Rodgers. A lot will disagree here but he’s a proven premier league manager. I’d be the ideal candidate for the job.

Get Involved - 'Managers contract duration should be honoured'published at 13:55 GMT

It is ridiculous the short space of time a manager gets nowadays. If they are on a contract the duration of it should be honoured. I know it's all about results but some of the managers don't even get any time to bring in their own signings.

    John, Glasgow

Some managers aren't given time to impose their style at a club. Some aren't allowed time to bring in players or even have a say what players come into a club. Just told that they are to use them. So clubs need to access what they want.
