Slot deserves plenty of criticism that much is clear. But can we for once suggest that the players simply weren't good enough? Barring Szoboszlai and maybe Ekitike there wasn't anyone who looked competent last night. I don't know what the answer is but the players need to step up too.

    • Liverpool have lost four of their last six home games in all competitions (W2) – as many as their previous 69 beforehand.

Every single Liverpool player at the moment needs to go back to basics, because every single player is having a tough time at the moment and needs to improve.

Morale needs lifting but it is very difficult to lift it. There are no easy games for them.

I think there's a bigger picture with everything that has gone on around the club.

There's a massive difference from last year in what is going on. However, it is a results-driven industry and at the moment Liverpool are losing games very heavily and the signs aren't that they are changing - there aren't improvements.

But, what do you put that down to? Is it down to the manager? Is it down to what has happened with Jota? I think this is a very difficult situation for the club to try to look at, because of everything that surrounds it.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot was asked whether the growing questions surrounding his future are "fair" in his post-match news conference.

He said: "I do not think it is important if it is fair or not but it is normal. If any manager around the world loses football games, let alone as many as we have lost then it is quite normal that people have an opinion about that. Whether that is fair or not fair, that is for the people to judge.

"I try to analyse and help the players as much as I can and it is obvious that I don't do it in the way I did last season because when you talk about individual errors, I think that is also something that comes from a team effort.

"I need to do better and that is what I am trying to do every single day to improve the team and that is where my main focus is."

  6. Slot's future in doubt?published at 12:40 GMT

Liverpool's stellar start was followed by a run of six defeats in seven matches that sparked concern and talk of a crisis.

Things started to look up earlier in November, with victories over Aston Villa and Real Madrid lifting morale and offering hope of a return to form.

But those wins only offered brief respite.

A 3-0 defeat by Manchester City just before the international break was tough, but can happen against Pep Guardiola's side.

But a setback by the same scoreline at home to Nottingham Forest left Liverpool 12th in the top flight and was followed by this embarrassing loss against PSV - only the Reds' second loss at Anfield in their past 26 pre-knockout stage games in this competition.

It has left Slot with a massive task on his hands to return his side to the top half of the Premier League and stay in the hunt for a top-eight place in the Champions League league phase, having slipped down to 13th.

Sacking managers at the first sign of trouble is not a tactic Liverpool have frequently deployed. Let's not forget too that last year Slot oversaw the best start - eight wins in his first 10 top-flight games - by a Reds boss, having just replaced Jurgen Klopp.

But his summer signings have not worked, putting him under pressure.

Slot says he is not worrying about his future at the club and is instead focused on turning things around.

Liverpool's torrid run continued as they suffered a miserable home defeat by PSV in the Champions League.

The visitors went ahead after just six minutes, Virgil van Dijk needlessly sticking his arm in the air in an attempt to claim a foul, but instead giving away a penalty for handball, which Ivan Perisic calmly slotted home.

Dominic Szoboszlai restored parity 10 minutes later when Cody Gakpo's effort was parried away by goalkeeper Matej Kovár, but landed straight at the feet of the Hungarian midfielder for a simple tap-in.

But the Dutch league leaders restored their advantage when Mauro Junior played a defence-splitting pass and Milos Kerkez could not prevent Guus Til slotting home.

The home side's misery was then compounded as substitute Couhaib Driouech poked in the rebound from Ricardo Pepi's effort, sending the already-buoyant visiting supporters into raptures.

The Moroccan forward then added a second in stoppage time, slotting low into the bottom corner following a swift move, sealing their first victory over an English side since beating Tottenham in the 2008 Europa League and moved up to 15th in the standings.

  8. Good afternoonpublished at 12:31 GMT

Hello and welcome to Thursday's live page.

Can you feel that in the air today? It's pressure. And there are a few Premier League managers that are starting to find themselves under a lot of it.

Arne Slot's Liverpool lost again on Wednesday evening and it seems many have reached tipping point with their most recent title-winning boss.

Daniel Farke is another name doing the rounds and with Leeds United sitting in the bottom three - will their owners look to make an imminent change?

We've got news conferences from both of those to bring you this afternoon, plus a handful of others including Tottenham Hotspur's Thomas Frank.

Before we get into the meat and drink of those though, a reminder of yet another humiliating defeat for Slot's Reds last night...
