Northern Ireland captain Simone Magill said that her side are "hungry to get back out there" ahead of their Nations League game against Romania.

Romania come to Belfast on Tuesday after the sides played out a 1-1 draw in Bucharest on Friday night.

Magill believes the quick turnaround from Friday's draw and playing at Windsor Park will suit her side, who are out to claim a victory after a frustrating result in the previous game.

"Hopefully it suits us playing at home and being back here will give us more confidence and we have to take those risks," she told BBC Sport NI.

"Everyone is hungry to get back out there and it's great we are playing them so soon again."

Northern Ireland boss Tanya Oxtoby believes the return of record goalscorer Rachel Furness will add "enthusiasm and belief" to her young squad.

Newcastle United midfielder Furness is a late addition to the panel for tonight's game, with Nottingham Forest's Megan Bell ruled out through illness.

Oxtoby is delighted to have the 36-year-old back in the fold for the first time since October 2023.

"We've got a fairly young group and we're in a great position where we can bring Furney in, she has been getting regular minutes for her club and she is tactically very astute," Oxtoby told BBC Sport NI.

"With the way we want to play we need versatility, and she can play in a number of different roles and the leadership she brings around the group is priceless, she'll come in and add a lot of enthusiasm and belief."

Northern Ireland's mixed start to the Nations League continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Romania in Bucharest.

Danielle Maxwell opened the scoring with a superb strike in the 33rd minute but Romania equalised when Mihaela Ciolacu capitalised on a defensive error.

Romania, who had lost their five previous matches, almost won the game in stoppage time when Olga Iordachiusi cut the ball back to goalscorer Ciolacu, but her effort cannoned back off the crossbar and Northern Ireland survived.

After losing to Poland and securing a late win over Bosnia-Herzegovina, Northern Ireland sit second in Group B1 after three matches.

Unbeaten Poland defeated the Bosnians 5-1 in Gdansk to strengthen their grasp on the automatic promotion spot in the group.

It's a big evening for Caragh Hamilton, who will captain Northern Ireland on her 50th appearance this evening.

She is the youngest player to play for Northern Ireland at 15 years and 121 days old way back in February 2012.

The versatile Nottingham Forest wide players took some time away from football and has battled a number of injuries on her way to reaching the milestone.

A well-deserved achievement.

Rachel Dugdale and Megan Bell are ill and drop out of the match day squad, which allows Nadene Caldwell and Keri Halliday to come into the starting team.

The versatile Caragh Hamilton, who will win her 50th Northern Ireland cap this evening, and Kascie Weir come in for Lauren Wade and Danielle Maxwell.

Newcastle midfielder Rachel Furness, who was only drafted into the squad yesterday, is on the bench.

Romania have made one change, with Iona Balaceanu coming in for Carmen Marcu.
