Lifetime Hammer - I’m not really one to quickly jump to sack the manager - and I thought we should have stuck with Moyes - but this guy sadly is no good and is taking us backwards so I would welcome a change.

Fact of the matter is that with a little luck and better finishing West Ham could and should have scored two at Man City before they scored one.

It's felt like it's been coming for a while. He's been under pressure since October really.

West Ham and Julen Lopetegui have never felt like a really great fit. There's been various low points for Lopetegui at West Ham already. It was hard to see it lasting long term.

I guess the most significant thing for West ham is who do they think they can get to replace him.

If there is no one, who is an obvious upgrade, available in the price range, and West ham generally do not like paying for managers, then maybe he will stick around for a little longer.

It really feels like a loveless marriage.

He netted the club's first ever strike at their new stadium against Crystal Palace in April, 2019.

The following week he scored Spurs' first Champions League goal at the ground against Manchester City.

In December, 2019 he went on a mazy, 80-yard run before netting against Burnley - a goal which won him the Puskas Award, making him the first ever Asian player to do so.

I just don't see Graham Potter as an improvement on Julen Lopetegui. West Ham will no doubt finish mid-table, the saving grace for many of the teams this year (as last year) is that the promoted teams seem more likely to drop down again. It gives Everton, Wolves, Crystal Palace et al. breathing space to get their houses in order - same goes for West Ham. Axing the manager now is short-sighted and gives a free pass to underperforming players...

That message from Steve has led us on nicely to Graham Potter. Cheers Steve.

West Ham have spoken to Potter about replacing Lopetegui, should they decide to sack him.

Potter, who has been out of work since leaving Chelsea in April 2023, has been linked with plenty of roles including the England job.

Do you think the former Brighton boss is a good fit for the Hammers?

I was very much in the "let's give Lopetegui some time" camp but we are halfway through the season and I'm struggling to see how he wants the team to play and amazed at how easy we are to score against. Moyes moving on was a mutual decision and I think it was right for all concerned but it just hasn't worked for Lopetegui. Sadly, with the way modern football works, I think another change is inevitable. Graham Potter is a good coach and I'm sure would do a good job. I think Michael Carrick would be a good shout too.

If Lopetegui does get sacked, it is more a failure of the owners than for him, fans weren't happy with Moyes so they got a carbon copy of Moyes. I personally don't think Lopetegui has done that bad.

The big problem for West Ham has always been this season when they get beaten, they get beaten badly.

It’s a mess at the back and it’s been like that for the majority of the season.

That was the sixth time this season they have lost a game in the Premier League by three or more goals.

When teams get beaten badly, I always think there is something wrong in the dressing room. You can lose games, but sometimes it’s how you lose.

You don’t like to see any manager lose his job but I was expecting this three or four weeks ago.

Here's the state of play for West Ham.

They have collected 23 points from 20 games, leaving them 14th in the Premier League table.

Lopetegui's side are seven points above the relegation zone and have conceded 39 goals, the fourth-most in the league. The Hammers defence has shipped four or more goals in four league games this term.

Sadly I think his time is up but once again West Ham's board have treated him with little to no personal or professional respect so are effectively reaping what they've sown. How is the guy supposed to build a squad with the axe regularly dangling over his head?
