Jean-Philippe Mateta almost gets on the end of a ball forwards, but an outstretched leg from Taras Mykhavko just about gets there in time. The soon-to-be France international was almost through then. Palace threatening.

    Dynamo Kyiv 0-0 Crystal Palace

Daichi Kamada twice lifts crosses into the Dynamo Kyiv penalty area but on both occasions it is headed away from danger. Palace have been the better side so far, but with nothing to show for it.

  4. 'Strange technique'published at 17:56 BST

    Dynamo Kyiv 0-0 Crystal Palace

The first effort was a strange technique. Volodymyr Brazhko was never scoring with that technique from that distance.

Crystal Palace have found the opening period quite comfortable.

    Dynamo Kyiv 0-0 Crystal Palace

You have to admire Volodymr Brazhko's confidence. Dynamo Kyiv get a free-kick 35 yards out and he goes for it. The first attempt bounces off the wall and the follow-up effort flies miles over the top. Dean Henderson will be very happy if the Ukrainians keep having shots from there.

  6. 'Brilliant work from Wharton'published at 7 mins

    Dynamo Kyiv 0-0 Crystal Palace

    Brilliant work from Adam Wharton.

Daniel Munoz is a heavy runner, but the weight of the pass was perfect for Munoz to flash it across.

Jean-Philippe Mateta was trying to finish it off at the near post.

A half-chance for Palace. Adam Wharton slides a ball down the right channel, Daniel Munoz hits it low first time into the danger zone and only strong defending at the near post denies Jean-Philippe Mateta from getting a shot away.

Palace win a corner, but more solid defending from Dynamo Kyiv gets it clear.

    Dynamo Kyiv 0-0 Crystal Palace

Andriy Yarmolenko, who had a four-year spell at West Ham between 2018 and 2022, wins an early foul for Dynamo Kyiv after an over-enthusiastic challenge by Yeremy Pino, although the Eagles have had plenty of the ball early on.

Almost every week the Premier League narrative is built around the big clubs, but not this time. Crystal Palace's phenomenal recent form has been unfairly overlooked to some degree but not now.

Stopping the Liverpool juggernaut in its tracks is one thing, but this was no fluke. The three points were well deserved and could easily have been wrapped up in the first half at Selhurst Park by Oliver Glasner's side.

‌The recent Palace story is even bigger than that, they have a myriad of reasons to be applauded. They are the only unbeaten side in the Premier League and deserved to be sitting in third place. They have done this while losing their two best players in the last year, Michael Olise to Bayern Munich and Eberechi Eze to Arsenal, though the £100m income from the pair would have come in handy with the rebuild.

This could and maybe should have led to a precipitous fall, but it has not, well not yet anyway.

‌This is a golden time for Palace, maybe one of the best in the club's history. They deserve their position and they deserve their shot at European glory.

‌I just hope those extra games do not turn out to be their downfall. That looks like their biggest threat to continuing success just now.

  13. How far can Glasner take Palace?published at 17:40 BST

Crystal Palace are the only remaining unbeaten side in the Premier League - and their 18-game run without losing is the joint longest in their history.

Manager Oliver Glasner is deservedly taking many of the plaudits, but just how far can the Austrian take his side – and is this form sustainable?

There is some statistical evidence to suggest there could be even more to come from the Eagles.

Opta's prediction model, which simulates every single Premier League match 10,000 times, believes the south Londoners will finish fourth, rating their chances of Champions League qualification at 43%.

That figure may raise eyebrows, given it is significantly higher than the likes of Chelsea (22.6%), Newcastle (15.2%) and Tottenham (13.9%), but it underlines Palace's improvement under Glasner that they are even in the conversation.

  14. Mateta 'deserves' France call-uppublished at 17:39 BST

Dynamo Kyiv v Crystal Palace (17:45 BST)

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner, speaking to TNT Sports about the two changes: "First of all, we had five days between Liverpool and Kyiv. Sarr returned from injury, and there were a lot of sprinting metres against Liverpool, so he gets a rest.

"Tyrick Mitchell was ill Sunday and Monday. All the other players are fit and performed very well - the players proved it against Liverpool. Three players came in late to help us win the game. It is not just what I'm expecting, but it is what everyone expects from the members of the team."

On Jean-Philippe Mateta's France call-up: "I am very pleased. He deserves this call-up. He has scored so many goals for such a long period of time. We congratulated him in front of the team. Hopefully, that gives him an extra push in today's game."

You enter into this game, and you want to succeed. You want to play in the biggest competitions and it is every lads dream. They will want to give themselves the best opportunity to go as far as they can in this competition.

All credit to the lads for the way they set up - their attitude and commitment speaks volumes.

I saw last season the way the lads applied themselves day in and day out. It is no coincidence that they have hit these heights.

  16. 'European nights seem more special' - Postecogloupublished at 17:35 BST

Nottingham Forest v Midtjylland (20:00 BST)

Nottingham Forest boss Ange Postecoglou said Oleksandr Zinchenko will not be available due to soreness in his groin, but Murillo is available after training over the last few days.

The City Ground hosts its first European match in nearly three decades, in what Postecoglou expects to be a "cracking atmosphere".

Postecoglou, who won the Europa League last season with Tottenham said it was a "privilege" for him to lead the team out in Europe, but he highlighted that Steve Cooper and Nuno Espirito Santo were the key figures that helped the club reclaim its European status.

He added: "I'm just the beneficiary of that and I don't take that lightly."

On Midtjylland, he said: "I know a fair bit about them and I have experience playing against them from Celtic. They have a very clear identity of football. They are very reliant on being physical, on their set pieces and on being really direct.

"You know what you're getting when you play them."

  17. Magical memories for older Villa fanspublished at 17:33 BST

Feyenoord v Aston Villa (20:00 BST)

Roll the clock back to 1982 and at Feyenoord's De Kuip stadium in Rotterdam, Aston Villa lifted the European Cup thanks to a 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich, with Peter Withe scoring the winning goal

Although Villa are competing in Europe's second tier competition this season, older Villans will remember the famous 1982 night and stadium with fond memories.

Villa are back at the same venue tonight, with a Europa League game against Feyenoord.

Can Unai Emery follow Tony Barton's steps and lead Aston Villa to more European glory?

  18. How it stands in the Europa Leaguepublished at 17:30 BST

While it is the first matches in the Conference League tonight, there has already been one round of matches in the Europa League. Aston Villa beat Italian side Bologna 1-0 thanks to a goal from John McGinn, while a late equaliser from ex-Manchester United man Antony denied Nottingham Forest a win as they drew 2-2 at Real Betis.

Celtic also picked up a point on their travels with a 1-1 draw at Red Star Belgrade in Serbia and Rangers (in 31st) were beaten 1-0 at home by Genk.

Each side plays eight different opponents, four at home and four away, with the top eight jumping straight into the last 16 and those between ninth and 24th taking part in the play-offs to join them. Anyone that comes 25th or worse is out of Europe.

It's the same format for the Conference League, but the only difference is each team only plays six different sides, three at home and three away.

Crystal Palace's Conference League meeting with Ukrainian side Dynamo Kyiv is taking place in Poland because of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Palace make their full debut in a European competition tonight, but the match will take place at the Motor Lublin Arena in Lublin, Poland.

Since the conflict started in February 2022, Ukrainian clubs have played their home matches in Europe in Poland, Slovakia, Sweden, Germany, Romania, Czech Republic and Slovenia.

Ukraine's national team has also played international home matches in Germany and Turkey in recent years.

Dynamo Kyiv's three Conference League home fixtures this season are all taking place in Lublin, while Ukrainian compatriots Shakhtar Donetsk are playing in Krakow, Poland.

Ukrainian top-flight matches continue to be played in their homeland, although average attendances are around half of the level they were prior to the coronavirus pandemic and Russia's invasion.
