  1. Something out of nothing to rescue Villa?published at 19:15 Greenwich Mean Time

    Club Brugge 1-0 Aston Villa

    Stephen Warnock
Former Aston Villa defender on MOTD: UEFA Champions League

Villa have been poor, but you look at the quality they have been able to bring off the bench and think they are still capable of nicking an equaliser, maybe by creating something out of nothing.

  2. Postpublished at 69 mins

    Club Brugge 1-0 Aston Villa

It's still pretty slow this. Aston Villa have not managed to create a chance since the goal and all the substitutions.

  3. 'Mings has had a minging evening'published at 19:13 Greenwich Mean Time

    Club Brugge 1-0 Aston Villa

    Chris Sutton
Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Tyrone Mings might have done it when he was three.

  4. Villa have not got going yetpublished at 19:11 Greenwich Mean Time

    Club Brugge 1-0 Aston Villa

    Stephen Warnock
Former Aston Villa defender on MOTD: UEFA Champions League

We are still waiting for Villa to get going here. They only had one shot on target against Spurs on Sunday - their goal from a corner in their 4-1 defeat - and they have had the same number here so far.

Brugge deserve some credit for that - they are very good at getting men back behind the ball when they lose possession.

  5. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 65 mins

    Club Brugge 1-0 Aston Villa

There's 25 minutes on the clock for Aston Villa to turn this around. They're going to bring on Pau Torres and Jacob Ramsey for Morgan Rogers and, you guessed it, Tyrone Mings.

It must be so demoralising as a manager when you work so hard preparing your team for a huge Champions league match & then your defender lifts the ball up in the area during open play!

  7. 'Careless from Brugge'published at 19:08 Greenwich Mean Time

    Club Brugge 1-0 Aston Villa

    Chris Sutton
Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Careless from Brugge since they scored the goal. Villa are pushing them back since they made the substitution.

  8. Postpublished at 62 mins

    Club Brugge 1-0 Aston Villa

Aston Villa look a bit more sprightly since that substitution but they've got some work to do here.

  9. Rogers finding Watkins alreadypublished at 19:04 Greenwich Mean Time

    Club Brugge 1-0 Aston Villa

    Stephen Warnock
Former Aston Villa defender on MOTD: UEFA Champions League

I am a little surprised to see John McGinn coming off, but not to see Morgan Rogers coming into the middle behind Ollie Watkins.

We just saw with that last Villa chance what Rogers brings to that central position, with strong play to hold off his man and then play in Watkins. It was good defending by Brugge to stop him.

You can hear more from Warnock on MOTD: Uefa Champions League at 22:50 GMT on BBC One and the BBC Sport website and app.

Club's Hans Vanaken celebrates scoring their side's first goalImage source, PA Media

With all the mucking around Martinez does at goal kicks to waste time (I witnessed first hand vs Tottenham on Sunday) that was bound to happen at some point!

    Marcus, Surrey

That's 100% a penalty. What was Mings thinking?

  11. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 19:03 Greenwich Mean Time

    Club Brugge 1-0 Aston Villa

On comes super sub Jhon Duran. Not for Ollie Watkins, but for John McGinn. So we've got both strikers on together here.

  12. Postpublished at 58 mins

    Club Brugge 1-0 Aston Villa

Nice, direct pass from Morgan Rogers to find Ollie Watkins in the area but the striker can't get the ball out of his feet to get the shot away.

Looks like we're going to see some changes.

  13. Simeone turns to Gallagherpublished at 19:02 Greenwich Mean Time

After dropping to the bench at the weekend, Conor Gallagher has been restored to the starting XI by Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone.

Since his summer move from Chelsea the English midfielder has started just one of Atleti's Champions League games this term, the 3-1 home defeat by Lille last month.

The Spanish giants have lost two of their opening three games, while in La Liga they are 10 points adrift of leaders Barcelona after just 12 matches.

It’s a “ridiculous situation” with that penalty because the goalkeeper should just take the goal kick and the defender shouldn’t even consider picking it up to begin with. If you concede a penalty like that it’s your own fault.

Ohhh Tyrone Mings... There's accidental handballs, and then there's that....

  15. Mings was not looking at Martinezpublished at 19:00 Greenwich Mean Time

    Club Brugge 1-0 Aston Villa

    Stephen Warnock
Former Aston Villa defender on MOTD: UEFA Champions League

Mings looks onImage source, Getty Images

Arsenal got away with doing the same thing against Bayern Munich in the Champions League last season - maybe this time the referee has seen that the Brugge players are closing Mings down?

I want to look at it again but I don't think Tyrone Mings has looked at Emi Martinez at all when he took the goal-kick, which is why he thinks he can pick it up because he does not know it has been taken.

  16. Postpublished at 54 mins

    Club Brugge 1-0 Aston Villa

The Aston Villa players were absolutely perplexed about what was going on there.

It's silly all round. Clearly Tyrone Mings did not realise that the goal kick was actually taken, or he would not have done that. But equally, it's daft from the Aston Villa defender.

  17. 'It is crazy from Mings'published at 18:58 Greenwich Mean Time

    Club Brugge 1-0 Aston Villa

    Chris Sutton
Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

    That's ridiculous.

Emi Martinez has put the ball down to take the kick and passed the ball to Mings, who scoops the ball up with his left hand. It is crazy from Mings, absolutely crazy.

What is he thinking? It's a brain freeze from Mings.

    Sheer stupidity.

Well it's a strange, strange situation but Club Brugges won't care!

A calm, confident penalty from Hans Vanaken and no chance for Emi Martinez.

Poor Tyrone Mings. On his European debut.

  19. PENALTY - CLUB BRUGGEpublished at 18:57 Greenwich Mean Time

    Club Brugge 0-0 Aston Villa

It's been given! The VAR has a quick look and says Tyrone Mings has handled the ball.

    What a ridiculous situation.

  20. Postpublished at 18:56 Greenwich Mean Time

    Club Brugge 0-0 Aston Villa

Hang on what's going on here?

Emi Martinez goes to take a goal kick, he passes it to Tyrone Mings and the centre back picks up the ball to give it back to the keeper.

Is this a penalty? Mings thought the ball hadn't been played.
