I am wondering when Unai Emery will start thinking about making a change.

Morgan Rogers has looked off the pace and leggy. Jhon Duran, when he came on, he changed the dynamic of the game against Bayern Munich.

This second half has started much the same as the first ended.

Will we see some changes from Unai Emery soon?

  3. Odegaard on bench for Arsenalpublished at 18:51 Greenwich Mean Time

Matteo Darmian starts for Inter, but fellow former Manchester United man Henrikh Mkhitaryan is among the substitutes.

Subs: Di Gennaro, Josep Martinez, Arnautovic, Thuram, Acerbi, Buchanan, Asllani, Mkhitaryan, Barella, Dimarco, Bastoni.

    .

Martin Odegaard could make his return from injury tonight but if he does it will be from off the bench. He is named among the Arsenal substitutes.

At the moment I am wondering why Villa have gone with John McGinn in the hole behind Ollie Watkins instead of Morgan Rogers. It might be to get his intensity in the middle, but they don't have that usual connection with Watkins.

If Villa are going to stick with their current two wide players, Rogers and Leon Bailey, then they need to find a way of getting them in one-on-one situations with the Brugge full-backs in the second half. That has not happened enough either.

Away we go in the second half. Goals please.

  6. Postpublished at 18:49 Greenwich Mean Time

HT: Club Brugge 0-0 Aston Villa

Aston Villa faced five shots on target in the first half against Club Brugge; their most in a single half of football in the Champions League to date. Meanwhile, they only registered one themselves; their joint-fewest in a first half in the competition (also one v Bayern).

  7. Rogers and Bailey waiting for the transitionpublished at 18:48 Greenwich Mean Time

HT: Club Brugge 0-0 Aston Villa

    Stephen Warnock
Former Aston Villa defender on MOTD: UEFA Champions League

The reason Morgan Rogers and Leon Bailey are not tracking back is because they are more forward thinking than, say, John McGinn and Jacob Ramsey, when they are in those wide positions for Villa.

Rogers and Bailey are waiting for when Villa win the ball back, and thinking about how they can get in on the transition, but it means Villa are more open out of possession.

  8. Shakhtar lead Young Boyspublished at 18:45 Greenwich Mean Time

HT: Shakhtar Donetsk 2-1 Young Boys

Well at least there's been goals somewhere.

At the Veltins Arena in Germany, where Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk currently play their home matches, Swiss outfit Young Boys took the lead through Kastriot Imeri but Shakhtar came back into it and Oleksandr Zubkov levelled things up before Heorhiy Sudakov put them ahead before the break.

Both sides are searching for their first win in the Champions League this season.

  9. 'Villa have Martinez to thank'published at 18:42 Greenwich Mean Time

HT: Club Brugge 0-0 Aston Villa

    Chris Sutton
Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Brugge have had the better opportunities and Villa have Emi Martinez to thank for keeping them in it.

You feel there's far more to come, it has been lethargic and Villa have not connected in the final third.

  10. Villa's wide players not tracking backpublished at 18:39 Greenwich Mean Time

HT: Club Brugge 0-0 Aston Villa

    Stephen Warnock
Former Aston Villa defender on MOTD: UEFA Champions League

There is lots of space out wide for Brugge because Aston Villa's two wide attacking players in their 4-2-3-1 shape, Morgan Rogers and Leon Bailey, don't want to track back.

  11. 'Villa rolling the ball around slowly'published at 18:37 Greenwich Mean Time

HT: Club Brugge 0-0 Aston Villa

    Chris Sutton
Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

    Here we go again.

Villa rolling the ball around slowly, with too many touches. Brugge are getting back into their setup and they're ready to pounce.

    Club Brugge 0-0 Aston Villa

A chance at the end of the half for Aston Villa to create something from a set piece. Youri Tielemans stands over the freekick 30-yards out.

Villa's set piece coach Austin MacPhee is out in the technical area but it comes to nothing.

  14. INJURY TIMEpublished at 18:32 Greenwich Mean Time

We'll have two minutes added on at the end of the 45.

  15. Watkins isolated so farpublished at 18:32 Greenwich Mean Time

    Club Brugge 0-0 Aston Villa

    Stephen Warnock
Former Aston Villa defender on MOTD: UEFA Champions League

Villa have had a couple of chances but Ollie Watkins has been a bit isolated so far with John McGinn a bit deeper, behind him.

I expected Villa to create a lot more than they have done but it is Brugge who have had the best chances, when Villa have switched off.

Morgan Rogers loops one from midfield and it sails out of play. And that sums up the night so far really.

Leon Bailey is an absolute passenger in this game. No surprise the attacks are causing us issues down our right-hand-side. I'd rather try Kosta Nedeljkovic as a wing-back with his pace.

  18. 'Villa look lethargic'published at 18:29 Greenwich Mean Time

    Club Brugge 0-0 Aston Villa

    Chris Sutton
Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Villa look lethargic, but the squad should be strong enough and deep enough.

This was the dream for Villa to get back into the Champion's League.

  19. Postpublished at 41 mins

    Club Brugge 0-0 Aston Villa

The general consensus is that this hasn't been the most entertaining of halves.

Just less than five minutes plus stoppages remain of the first half.

This is a new Aston Villa back-four, and they are still settling down. Even so, I'm surprised to see Brugge having as many opportunities as this.
