Leeds striker Mateo Joseph told Sky Sports: "I feel great, scoring the goal and helping the team secure three points. It's reward for the work I do - whether it's 10 minutes or the whole game, I am ready."

On the assist for his goal from Joel Piroe: "Joel can play striker, he can play No10, he's a great player, thank you Joel."

Joseph vowed not to cut his hair after a week which saw him notch a hat-trick for Spain Under-21s before his goalscoring cameo tonight, adding: "I was desperate to get on the pitch and really happy for this last week. I will keep working hard to get more rewards."

  2. 'The only way from here is up'published at 22:13 British Summer Time

    FT: Leeds 2-0 Sheff Utd

Leeds United captain Pascal Struijk speaking to Sky Sports:

"It's massive. Tonight we always knew that was going to be a tough game.

"Six clean sheets in a row, you don't do that if you're not solid defensively so I'm glad we broke them down today.

"I think we had the highest first contacts in the league so it was only going to be a matter of time before we scored.

"It's way too early to look at the table. Hopefully we win as much as we can - the only way from here is up."

  3. 'Work to be done for Wilder'published at 22:10 British Summer Time

    FT: Leeds 2-0 Sheff Utd

    Rob Kozluk
Ex-Sheffield United defender on BBC Radio Sheffield

This result tonight was going to tell you where you'd be in the season. If you finish around these two teams, you're going to have a successful season.

With that goal, it changes the course of everything Sheffield United were trying to work on.

Chris Wilder can go away with work to be done.

  4. FULL-TIMEpublished at 22:09 British Summer Time

    Newport 0-3 Chesterfield

Chesterfield take all three points in South Wales and are into the play-off places.

Dilan Markanday gave Paul Cook's side the lead after just 42 seconds after a mix up between Newport keeper Nick Townsend and centre-back Kyle Jameson.

That was followed by a brace from Will Grigg off the bench in the second half.

Chesterfield, who are now unbeaten in their past six league games, move up to seventh in the table.

It's just a second home defeat of the season in the league for Newport who have now lost three on the spin.

  5. 'Leeds a level above'published at 22:04 British Summer Time

    FT: Leeds 2-0 Sheff Utd

    Leigh Bromby
Former Leeds and Sheffield United defender on BBC Radio Leeds

Leeds look a level above Sheffield United if I'm being honest.

It's shown tonight that Leeds haven't just edged it, they've been by far the better team.

I think with the circumstances, it's an almost better performance. The Blades had the advantage because of the international break.

Sheffield United haven't laid a glove on Leeds.

  6. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:58 British Summer Time

    Leeds 2-0 Sheff Utd

A big, BIG win for Leeds.

Sheffield United are unbeaten no more. Their defence is impregnable no more.

On this showing Leeds are the best team in the Championship and if they can repeat nights like these they won't be in this division in seven months' time.

That is also 16 Yorkshire derbies unbeaten for Whites - 12 of them wins.

    Quite a night.

They go level on points, and goal difference, with leaders Sunderland, above Blades, and only off the summit on goals scored.

  7. Postpublished at 90+3 mins

    Leeds 2-0 Sheff Utd

Leeds need one more goal to go top of the Championship tonight.

Two of the five added minutes remain for them to find one.

  8. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:54 British Summer Time

    Leeds 2-0 Sheff Utd

Sam Byron is on for Leeds along with Patrick Bamford for the final knockings.

Junior Firpo and Joel Piroe make way.

Piroe might not have scored but that was a priceless assist for the second.

Leeds fans are marching on in full voice...

One team in Yorkshire, they cry.

  9. 'Blades have ran their race'published at 21:54 British Summer Time

    Leeds 2-0 Sheff Utd

    Rob Kozluk
Ex-Sheffield United defender on BBC Radio Sheffield

You saw where it all broke down - Alfie Gilchrist to Jesurun Rak-Sakyi.

It looks to me like Sheffield United have run their race and they didn't have the legs to get back to Leeds.

  10. goal

GOAL Leeds 2-0 Sheff Utdpublished at 21:51 British Summer Time

    Mateo Joseph (90 mins)

    Game over.

Joe Piroe drops deep and glides forward with the ball before slotting past the last defender for Mateo Joseph to run onto, hold his nerve, outmuscle his marker and slide past Michael Cooper.

The EFL's last unbeaten run looks to be over. And deservedly so.

  11. Postpublished at 21:50 British Summer Time

    Leeds 1-0 Sheff Utd

Jayden Bogle would LOVE a goal against his former employers, it's fair to say, and he jinks in from the right before trying a curling left-footed strike which cannons off a defender into the night for Michael Cooper to dash off his line and clutch.

  12. YELLOW CARDpublished at 86 mins

    Leeds 1-0 Sheff Utd

Pascal Struijk carelessly concedes a corner, which Illan Meslier claws behind for another.

The second set-piece is deep towards Ollie Arblaster who is desperate for a penalty for handball against a defender but takes his protests too far, and right up to the assistant referee, earning the Blades skipper another caution.

  13. goal

GOAL: Newport 0-3 Chesterfieldpublished at 21:47 British Summer Time

    Will Grigg (87 mins)

    And that is surely that.

Will Grigg with his second off the bench.

Oliver Banks plays the ball across to Grigg who turns with it off the ground and it's a scooped finish into the back of the net.

  14. YELLOW CARDpublished at 84 mins

    Leeds 1-0 Sheff Utd

Leeds' Junior Firpo is shown a yellow card by referee Lewis Smith for delaying the restart.

    Very avoidable under the circumstances.

  15. goal

GOAL: Newport 0-2 Chesterfieldpublished at 21:46 British Summer Time

    Will Grigg (84 mins)

Newport were threatening but Chesterfield look like they are taking home the points.

Will Grigg comes off the bench to poke home.

  16. 'Wilder going all out'published at 21:43 British Summer Time

    Leeds 1-0 Sheffield United

    Leigh Bromby
Former Leeds and Sheffield United defender on BBC Radio Leeds

Chris Wilder has answered our question. He's going all out.

It's a really attacking team now.

  17. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 81 mins

    Leeds 1-0 Sheff Utd

Another roll of the dice for Chris WIlder as Rhian Brewster comes on for Vini Souza. His earlier yellow card means he will now face a one-match ban too. Not good news for Wilder, who is going for it, it's fair to say.

  18. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 78 mins

    Leeds 1-0 Sheff Utd

    More pace.

Largie Ramazani is heading off, with Mateo Joseph coming off the bench for Leeds.

The Belgian put in a real shift and came closest to a breakthrough before half-time for the hosts,

  19. League Two latestpublished at 21:39 British Summer Time

    Newport 0-1 Chesterfield

Newport are really pressing for an equaliser at Rodney Parade.

First they think they've scored as Chesterfield keeper Max Thompson fails to claim a corner comfortably but Newport's protests are waved away after thinking the ball crossed the line.

And moments after - Kyle Hudlin loops a cross into the area with it heading towards the goal but it comes off the post.
