    Tottenham v Bodo/Glimt (20:00 BST)

    Nigel Reo-Coker
Former Aston Villa midfielder on the Football Daily podcast

I would warn Spurs now not to underestimate Bodo/Glimt. They have been one of the fantastic teams in this Europa League. I have covered them in this competition and they are a sensational footballing side. Whether that be on their artificial pitch at home or grass away.

They are going to cause Tottenham some serious problems.

  2. When teams feared 'The Butcher of Bilbao'published at 19:51 British Summer Time 1 May

Athletic Bilbao v Man Utd (20:00 BST)

At least Manchester United's player don't have to face 'The Butcher of Bilbao' tonight.

Centre-back Andoni Goikoetxea, who played for Bilbao between 1975 and 1987, achieved notoriety for a tackle from behind which broke Diego Maradona's ankle during a match with Barcelona in 1983.

At the time, it was described as "one of the most brutal fouls ever delivered in the history of Spanish football".

Goikoetxea, who also played for Atletico Madrid, was recognised as a bigger hardman than Roy Keane. Fortunately for Ruben Amorim's side, he stopped playing in 1990.

  3. 'It will be tough for Man Utd'published at 19:50 British Summer Time 1 May

Athletic Bilbao v Man Utd (20:00 BST)

    Henning Berg
Former Manchester United defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

These are big pressure games and anything can happen.

Athletic Bilbao have always been very good at home and they make an unbelievable atmosphere during the game. It will be tough for Manchester United but at the same time the level of the players shouldn't be too different.

It will be an even game. They just have to keep their heads and their best level on the pitch and if they do that then they'll have a chance.

  4. 'Amorim's system suits European football'published at 19:48 British Summer Time 1 May

Athletic Bilbao v Man Utd (20:00 BST)

    Paul Robinson
Former England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live at San Mames

I think with the pace and power of the Premier League, Manchester United get found out too often but Ruben Amorim's style suits European football, we saw that during his time in Portugal.

The way they've played away from home has got them some big results in this competition.

  5. 'Richarlison offers so much'published at 19:46 British Summer Time 1 May

    Tottenham v Bodo/Glimt (20:00 BST)

    Andros Townsend
Former Tottenham midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think Richarlison, even though he doesn't score many goals, he offers so much energy and Spurs have been lacking that of late. That selflessness to run and close people down and get the fans behind the team.

United fan here - but I agree with Phill from the Wirral, sadly. Hope is one thing, but we can't surely expect to win this tie - Bilbao are a much better team this year.

  7. Athletic Bilbao - an institutionpublished at 19:45 British Summer Time 1 May

Athletic Bilbao v Man Utd (20:00 BST)

Athletic Bilbao are a one-club city where men, women, children and even pet dogs wear the club's red and white colours on match days.

The club is an institution, visible in all aspects of daily life.

Each baby born in the region in 2023 received a bib commemorating the club's 125th anniversary.

  9. This surface is going to cause problemspublished at 19:42 British Summer Time 1 May

    Djurgarden v Chelsea

    Nizaar Kinsella
BBC Sport football news reporter in Stockholm

Djurgarden's own manager Jani Honkavaara called this surface "horrible" and one of his players used a profanity to describe what it is like.

While sat here watching the warm ups, you can see why. The goalkeepers are doing drills where they ping long balls to each other but, when the ball bounces, it doesn't carry, making it look like the ball is flat.

This 3Arena artificial surface in Stockholm is likely to reduce the quality we see on display.

I feel sorry for Rasmus Hojlund, I really do. I think you can see the work he puts in, the passion and desire he's got to go and close people down and try make it stick to bring players into play.

It's not quite happened for him yet but in his defence, I don't think he's been given the best service over the past six months.

He'd be the first to say his performances haven't reached where he'd want to be, but he's still young and hopefully he can finish the season well.

You can call me a deluded Spurs fan all you like but surely, even with just the law of averages as my measure, Spurs are due a decent performance in front of their home fans. I agree with Hoddle - Spurs to win it by 3.

  12. 'Spurs need to win by two goals to make final'published at 19:39 British Summer Time 1 May

    Tottenham v Bodo/Glimt (20:00 BST)

    Andros Townsend
Former Tottenham midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Because it's a semi-final I don't think Tottenham will take them lightly. If it was a group stage or qualifier or last 16 they might, but if you watched those games against Lazio in the quarter-final it's a very good side.

An artificial pitch at home with a very good home record, so Tottenham know they're in for a game.

I think if they want to make the final they'll need to win by at least two goals tonight.

Why does anyone think that Utd are even in with a shout of winning this match, let alone the whole thing? Athletic Bilbao are a top 5 team in Spain and finished above Utd in the group stages...and Utd are genuinely awful right now! Sadly, their season ends here.

  14. 'Spiritual aura'published at 19:35 British Summer Time 1 May

Athletic Bilbao v Man Utd (20:00 BST)

    Alex Bysouth
    BBC Sport senior journalist

San Mames is a truly unique and iconic stadium. One that bears an almost spiritual aura and has thus been nicknamed The Cathedral - fans still worship Saint Mammes at the site of an old shrine next door, the third-century orphan who pacified the lions sent to kill him.

It's why Athletic are known as "Los Leones", The Lions.

San Mames is a symbol of Basque identity, just as Athletic Bilbao have become a Basque institution through their philosophy of only fielding players who are born or raised in the region. "Unique in the world," they call it.

Families visit together, club memberships are passed down through generations like heirlooms. The players representing Athletic Bilbao on the field were once those decked in red and white in the stands.

An iconic venue which has been selected to host the Europa League final in three weeks.

Imagine this place if Athletic Bilbao get to play a final in their own backyard?

Bodo/Glimt manager Kjetil Knutsen has previous with Ange Postecoglou after comprehensively beating his Celtic side 5-1 over two legs in the 2021/22 Conference League. However, Knutsen believes this season's meeting won't be the same against a "better" Tottenham.

"I know the coach, but it is a totally different game," he said.

"We need to play with a perfect defence on Thursday because they have a lot of rotations and really good individuals. [They will create] a lot of situations in our box. We have played good games against them, but I think Tottenham is a better team than Celtic."

Results and performances haven't been to the level expected.

But this is a big competition Manchester United can win.

They're three games away from doing that. At the end of that there's the Champions League. What a massive incentive it is for United to be back in the Champions League.

Brothers Inaki and Nico Williams - who both start against Manchester United - are the first siblings to play for Athletic Bilbao since 1986.

Inaki, 30, and Nico, 22, have scored 10 of their side's 21 Europa League goals between them this season.

Nico is a national hero in Spain after scoring against England in his country's triumph in the Euro 2024 final.
