  1. 'Mbappe really hitting form'published at 23:04 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February

FT: Real Madrid 3-1 Man City (6-3 agg)

    James Horncastle
European football expert on on MOTD: UEFA Champions League

If you go back to the first clasico of the season at Santiago Bernabeu, it was so big for him. Madrid lost 4-0, Kylian Mbappe didn't score and he was caught offside eight times. That was unthinkable for him.

After 'only' scoring on his debut, after 'only' scoring ten goals in his first 15 games, he is now really hitting form.

  2. 'Anything but competitive'published at 23:02 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February

FT: Real Madrid 3-1 Man City (6-3 agg)

    Stephen Warnock
Former Liverpool defender on MOTD: UEFA Champions League

We all were coming into this game thinking it could be a great game, a classic if you like, because of the history of the two teams in the last few years.

We all thought it would be competitive but sadly it wasn't. It was anything but.

  3. 'On his day he's unstoppable'published at 23:02 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February

FT: Real Madrid 3-1 Man City (6-3)

    Chris Sutton
Former Celtic striker on MOTD: UEFA Champions League

We all know on Mbappe's day he's unstoppable, he may have been fortunate with his goal at the Etihad but there was nothing fortunate about his goals this game.

When you leave space in behind, there's not many defenders who can live with him in a one-on-one situation. He ran the Manchester City backline ragged.

When he signed for them, it was all about finding his feet. He's certainly doing that now.

Former England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

It has been a very quick downturn. It was only in November that they were the only unbeaten team in Europe and now they are trying to bring in new players.

But Guardiola is never going to say they had no chance, with injured players who were never going to come on the pitch.

The Real Madrid fans were singing 'Pep stay, Pep stay.'

It was a really big victory as the Real Madrid fans always want to beat Guardiola after what he did when he was manager of Barcelona.

There were a lot of doubts after Mbappe came as to how he would fit in. They thought maybe they don't need him and now he is so comfortable in the striker position.

Jude Bellingham when he is fit and able to play box-to-box, he is key to keeping that team balance.

If those four [Mbappe, Bellingham, Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo] are on it, they can beat anyone without even having to worry about those at the back. It's like they don't need anyone else to win when those four are on form.

  11. 'Our goal was to be good defensively'published at 22:43 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February

FT: Real Madrid 3-0 Man City (6-3 on aggregate)

    Real Madrid

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti speaking to TNT Sports: "Our goal was to be good defensively. We were compact. We have a lot of quality up front but we were not always able to defend our box. In these two games we have been able to do this. When you have that foundation you are able to build out from it.

"You never know in football. Every little detail can change the dynamic of a game. We were able to control the game well and scored the second and the third goals but we were always defending well.

"It takes time to defend in a low block and the players understood that. They understood that they had to work collectively in defence."

On Kylian Mbappe: "Fantastic player. We have a lot of quality up front and when we are able to connect him with Rodrygo, Bellingham and Vinicius we are really, really dangerous - that happened in these two games. He [Mbappe] had a lot of opportunities in these two games against a really good team, City are still a really good team, and we looked very dangerous."

FT: Real Madrid 3-0 Man City (6-3 on aggregate)

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola speaking to TNT Sports: "After we conceded the goal in the first action we didn't defend well, it was more and more difficult. We have to accept it, the best team won so congratulations to Real Madrid. Now we focus on the Premier League.

"It's a fantastic team, they deserve to go through. We didn't deserve it, it's the first year we didn't make a good Champions League season. We have to accept it and fight for next season to be here again.

"Of course Real Madrid are contenders to win the Champions League now, but there are other good teams around.
