  2. 'He’s a great goalkeeper and we have a very good relationship'published at 15:30 British Summer Time 1 July

    Arsenal

The former Chelsea goalkeeper also spoke about the dynamics of his relationship with current Arsenal number one David Raya:

“He’s a great goalkeeper and we have a very good relationship. We will compete, we will train together, we will share a lot of time together. We will have competition, as with all the positions in the team, but with the only goal that is to win and be the best ones.”

  3. Kepa: Havertz and Odegaard helped convince me to join Arsenalpublished at 15:27 British Summer Time 1 July

    Arsenal

Kepa also stated that he had spoken to former Chelsea teammate Kai Havertz and also with Martin Odegaard before switching clubs:

“I spoke with Kai. He was with Martin, so we were talking, we had a good chat together, and they already started explaining a little bit about how everything works and how good the atmosphere is right now in the changing room. So, I can't wait to join.”

  4. 'It's a big stadium, a top stadium, with big fans'published at 15:24 British Summer Time 1 July

    Arsenal

Kepa also spoke about his earliest memory of Arsenal after having visited the stadium when he was 2012:

"Santi Cazorla. I can remember when he was here and I came here with Athletic Club to play an academy game. We were in the stadium, and I can remember his t-shirt in the club shop, so it's one of the memories that I have from a long time ago.

“I’ve come here as an opponent but the atmosphere in the stadium is beautiful. Obviously, it's a big stadium, a top stadium, with big fans. From outside you can see how much they love the club, how much they support the club and this, for a player, it's amazing to have this support behind you.”

  5. Kepa was a victim of his price tag at Chelseapublished at 15:21 British Summer Time 1 July

Kepa at Chelsea was simply victim of his £71m price tag.

He was deemed the best possible option when Thibaut Courtois forced his exit when Chelsea in 2018.

Chelsea had gone for Alisson but he chose Liverpool with Kepa deemed the next best option but Athletic Club forcing the Blues to pay his full release clause.

After his wobble early in his Chelsea career, Kepa quickly proved not worth either the fee or his previous £190,000-a-week wages.

Yet, he was still highly respected behind the scenes and was deemed a top professional, good squad member and a positive character despite his strange episode in refusing to be substituted in the Carabao Cup final in 2019.

He has always been a good option but not one to command a world transfer record for a goalkeeper, which he still holds to this day.

Kepa could be a great asset to Arsenal having been a no1 and no2 at Chelsea in the past and push current starter David Raya.

I’m shocked. Arsenal have actually signed a player, vaguely in a position we need. I’m not a huge fan of Kepa, I don’t think he is a patch on Raya but as a backup he will do.

  7. One done, two to come?published at 15:16 British Summer Time 1 July

Kepa Arrizabalaga becomes Arsenal's first summer signing as they look to go one better than their second-place Premier League finish in the past three seasons.

In addition, the Gunners are closing in on the signing of Brentford captain Christian Norgaard, while Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi is also expected to have a medical with the north London club.

  8. 'We're here to win'published at 15:15 British Summer Time 1 July

    Arsenal

Arsenal's new goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has been speaking to the club's media following his move from Chelsea to the Gunners:

"We're here to win. I think we have a great team. I think we have great staff around here, the best facilities, so we have to prepare ourselves for this season and to have success.

"When I talk with Mikel [Arteta] and Inaki [Cana], they show me their desire to win. They showed me this ambition, how much they want to improve, how much they want to grow and I'm really here to help, to push and to win more."

  9. Kepa remains world’s most expensive goalkeeperpublished at 15:11 British Summer Time 1 July

Kepa Arrizabalaga still holds the record as the most expensive goalkeeper in football history following his £72m move from Athletic Bilbao to Chelsea in August 2018.

Signed as a long-term replacement for Thibaut Courtois, Kepa’s fee eclipsed the previous goalkeeper transfer record set just weeks earlier, when Liverpool paid £66.8m for Brazilian stopper Alisson Becker from Roma.

Since then, no goalkeeper transfer has come close to surpassing Kepa’s record.

Other notable fees include Gianluigi Buffon’s £32.6m move to Juventus from Parma in 2001 and Andre Onana’s £47.2m transfer from Inter Milan to Manchester United in 2023.

  13. What's happening at West Ham?published at 14:53 British Summer Time 1 July

West Ham United are currently in a period of transition as they prepare for the 2025–26 Premier League season under manager Graham Potter.

The club has seen several key departures over the last 12 months, including Kurt Zouma, Danny Ings, Aaron Cresswell, Vladimir Coufal, and Lukasz Fabianski, leaving gaps in both defence and attack.

There's been no incomings so far this summer other than completing the permanent signing of central defender Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice for £34.22m.

  14. Champions League clubs queuing for Kuduspublished at 14:50 British Summer Time 1 July

    Noel Sliney
    BBC Sport

Several of England’s Champions League clubs are reportedly keen on Mohammed Kudus, whose sale could raise £60m-plus for West Ham’s much-needed squad rebuild.

Kudus, 24, remains sought after despite being as underwhelming last season as he was electrifying in 2023-24 following a £38m move from Ajax.

He only scored five goals in the most recent campaign, down from 14 across all competitions in his debut season for the Hammers, and was often ineffective in the system preferred by head coach Graham Potter, who took charge in January and favours wing-backs over wingers.

Kudus was often utilised up front by Potter and seldom featured wide on the right, arguably his best position, but one in which West Ham already have captain Jarrod Bowen.

For the second season running, Kudus attempted the most dribbles in the Premier League, but his success rate dropped by 10% in 2024-25.

The Ghanaian’s ability is not in question, though, and suitors will point to his 2023-24 numbers and a brilliant run and finish against Freiburg that season, either side of spectacular acrobatic goals against Brentford and Manchester City.

  17. How would Madueke improve Arsenal?published at 14:38 British Summer Time 1 July

    Karan Vinod
    BBC Sport journalist

Arsenal-linked Chelsea forward Noni Madueke would bring a fresh dimension to the Gunners' attack with his pace, dribbling and directness.

As a dynamic winger, he excels at taking on defenders one-on-one and creating chances both for himself and team-mates.

His ability to stretch defences out wide would complement Arsenal’s existing wide players like Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, adding depth and unpredictability to their forward line.

Madueke’s creativity and flair could also help unlock tight defences, especially in big matches where space is limited.

Moreover, the 23-year-old's youth and energy would provide a boost in high-pressing and transitional play, key aspects of Mikel Arteta’s tactical approach.

Overall, Madueke’s addition would increase competition for places, improve Arsenal’s attacking versatility, and give Arteta more options to adapt his gameplan throughout the season.

Best way to stop players just sitting on the bench (or not even in the squad) on big wages is to have a set amount, say 25%, and if they play they get the full 100%. Players would go somewhere to play and get the money then too.

As Arsenal gear up for the 2025-26 season, Mikel Arteta has a strong and versatile group of forwards at his disposal, with several exciting talents already in the squad and potential new additions on the horizon.

Key players like Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli provide pace, creativity and goal threat from wide positions.

Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus remain with the north London club, but both missed large parts of last season due to injuries. Leandro Trossard also remains with the team and is a useful option.

Meanwhile, Mikel Merino has been used to lead the line from time to time, and Raheem Sterling has returned to Chelsea following the conclusion of his loan spell.

Amazing how many fans don’t understand that the FFP rules will stop their club's ambitions. Forest’s wheeler-dealer days are over, and Manchester United need urgent sales of players that nobody wants.
