Arsenal are making significant strides in the transfer market as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2025–26 Premier League season. The Gunners are close to securing deals for three important additions: Christian Norgaard, Kepa Arrizabalaga, and Martin Zubimendi.

    Christian Norgaard

BBC Sport revealed last week that the two Premier League clubs had agreed a fee, believed to be up to £15m inclusive of add-ons, for the Denmark midfielder. And Brentford Director of Football Phil Giles, on Monday, confirmed captain Christian Norgaard is close to joining Arsenal.

"We have been in conversations with Arsenal for the last week to 10 days – as it stands it hasn't been completed yet but it is heading in that direction," Giles told BBC Sport.

    Kepa Arrizabalaga

Arsenal are set to complete the signing of Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga this week.

The 30-year-old has a £5m release clause after adding an extra year to his contract last summer before a successful loan spell at Bournemouth.

Arsenal needed a new number two goalkeeper after opting against signing Neto, who spent last season on loan at Emirates Stadium from Bournemouth, on a permanent basis.

    Martin Zubimendi

Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi is set to have a medical before completing a switch to Arsenal.

Well-placed sources have confirmed to BBC Sport that all the relevant documents in relation to the Spain international's switch to the Emirates have been signed, with the deal entering its closing stages.

The transfer is subject to a successful medical that Arsenal are in the process of organising.

Arsenal have been eerily quiet on the transfer front in general.

That vacuum is current being filled by gossip and conjecture, but we are being assured that it should be a case of when, not if, the north London club announces some new signings...

  5. Not all departures have been confirmedpublished at 13:55 British Summer Time

Arsenal, for example, have not said midfielder Thomas Partey has left the club.

Man Utd are still a mess. Ratcliffe and his new hires are just as bad as Woodward and the Glazers. There were high hopes for a required big squad restructure this summer but Amorim has been let down by an incompetent recruitment team. Can't buy and can't sell. Other teams getting deals done. Next season will be more of the same.

It constantly bewilders me that players on hundreds of thousands of pounds a week, wouldn’t consider a pay cut in order to play the game they supposedly love. It’s not like the rest of us, where if we took a 20% pay cut we might well have to move to cut back on essentials. I’m not saying they should all cut their pay, but if they want to actually play, then I think they would be enormously popular with their new club’s fans.

  10. Rashford's record at Villapublished at 13:29 British Summer Time

Marcus Rashford scored four goals and weighed in with nine goal contributions in total in 17 appearances for Aston Villa last season.

The forward showed glimpses of brilliance in his loan spell at Villa Park and was even preferred over Ollie Watkins in the club's Champions League quarter-final second leg win over Paris St-Germain.

The Midlands club, however, chose not to activate their option to buy Rashford for £40m.

In a statement on Monday, Villa confirmed Rashford would return to parent club Manchester United.

"Marco Asensio, Marcus Rashford and Axel Disasi each joined Villa in February on loan deals until the end of the 2024/25 season," said Villa.

"Everyone at Aston Villa would like to thank each of the players for their efforts and amazing commitment to the club and wish them all the very best for the future."

Don't know whether I am more disappointed with the lack of Forest signings or the lack of pretty much any coverage towards them full stop in the media

    Kevin, Mansfield

Why is anybody surprised at Manchester United in the transfer market? I'm not, they dither all the time, our rivals, Man City & Liverpool get on with it, four signings each already. United are atrocious when it comes to transfers, they lose out nearly every time to other teams.

Man Utd fans frustrated... Nottingham Forest fans frustrated... Although, Man Utd fans, at least you've signed Matheus Cunha for £62.5m. Forest's business so far amounts to a one-year contract extension for Willy Boly.

There are, however, obstacles in the way of any move involving Rashford leaving Manchester United.

This is what our chief football news reporter Simon Stone said in May:

The player's camp do not believe current United head coach Ruben Amorim wants to restore the player to his squad, while minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has previously spoken about his frustration at some of the team's highest earners not being on the pitch.

The simple truth is if Rashford sticks to his guns over his wages – and his United contract does not run out until 2028 - very few clubs in the world could afford him.

It means United have to offer an incentive to negotiate a sale, through a reduced fee or offering to pay a portion of his wages or both.

  16. Amorim v Rashfordpublished at 12:47 British Summer Time

There was no love lost between Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim and Marcus Rashford before the forward's loan move to Villa Park.

Speaking in January, Amorim suggested he'd rather give a place on the bench to his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach instead of Rashford because of a perceived lack of effort.

Their relationship is likely to need some repair if Rashford is to don the red shirt of United again.

#bbcfootball, WhatsApp 03301231826, text 81111 (UK only, standard rates apply)

To suggest Manchester City are now merely average is somewhat confusing? They've got a squad that is in need of an overhaul, but they're a team in transition. I think there is a lot of ill feeling towards City due to their overwhelming dominance in the last decade and the never-ending investigation into the financial issues, which has skewed a lot of opinions about them and is not rooted in football. I'm a Palace fan and although I was delighted to see us beat City in the FA Cup final I'm realistic enough to realise that this was an upset against one of the giants of modern football. Personal feelings towards City need to be parked when assessing their qualities as a football team, especially as they've been playing non-stop for a full calendar year.

    Jon

What is going on with the upvotes for Graham’s ridiculous post?! He’s an Everton fan claiming he’d keep Jack Harrison, Gueye and the like ahead of pretty much any of City’s squad? City are in a bad run and it’s obscene that a manager with the genius of Guardiola can suffer one injury (Rodri) and it weakens the entire team so drastically, but to say they’re an average side and that you’d only take Haaland is beyond laughable.

  18. Rashford returns to Old Traffordpublished at 12:36 British Summer Time

Marcus Rashford last night officially returned to Manchester United following the conclusion of his short-term loan at Aston Villa.

The 27-year-old forward joined Villa in January after a challenging first half of the season at Old Trafford.

During his time at Villa Park, Rashford made 17 appearances across all competitions, scoring four goals and providing six assists.

United's players return to training on Monday before their first pre-season game against Leeds United in Sweden on Saturday, 19 July.

Rashford has, however, been linked with a permanent move away from Old Trafford, or potentially another loan, while latest reports suggest the England international would prefer to join a foreign club rather than remain in the Premier League.
