1. Al-Hilal celebrate huge achievementpublished at 07:44 British Summer Time 1 July

As Callum Wilson rightly pointed out, no-one predicted Al-Hilal could pull off a result against Manchester City, who had claimed maximum points in the group stages.

And the Saudi Pro League side celebrated the victory like they were still in shock...

We all predicted that Man City would win, I think Al-Hilal probably did as well, so it is probably the shock of the tournament.

There were questions about where the goals would come from with Mitrovic out, and all of a sudden they have scored four goals against a team that had only conceded two in the whole tournament.

So I think overall you have got to say that it is a well deserved win.

The heroics of former Girona and Sevilla goalkeeper Bono helped Morocco reach the World Cup semi-finals in 2022 and he was even more valiant here against Manchester City.

The 34-year-old made a string of saves - totalling 10 - to ensure Al-Hilal clung on in the contest.

Bono denied Savinho and Ilkay Gundogan from close range in the first half, before showing sharp reflexes to tip Josko Gvardiol's header over the crossbar.

After the break, with time running out in a thoroughly entertaining contest, Manuel Akanji flicked a header against the post and Erling Haaland saw his follow-up effort sensationally cleared off the line by Ali Lajami.

Former City full-back Joao Cancelo was involved in both of Al-Hilal's opening goals.

And it will be a game that 22-year-old front man Marcos Leonardo will always remember after scoring twice.

But is one that the City players will want to forget.

Those are the key details of an extraordinary Club World Cup clash, but they do not quite tell the whole story.

Manchester City had plenty of chances to put daylight between themselves and Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal in the opening half, but came up against an inspired display from Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou - known as Bono.

In total, City attempted 30 shots, with 14 on target.

Al-Hilal had 17 - six on target - and scored four goals over the 120 minutes to pull off a seismic shock...

    • 9 mins - For the fourth game running in the Club World Cup, Manchester City open the scoring inside the first 10 minutes as captain Bernardo Silva sweeps home from close range, but the Al-Hilal players are left fuming as Rayan Ait-Nouri appears to handle the ball in the build-up.
    • 46 mins - Al-Hilal found little joy in the opening 45 minutes, but just 44 seconds into the second half, Brazilian striker Marcos Leonardo is in the right place to head in the equaliser.
    • 52 mins - City are left reeling when former Barcelona man Malcom runs clear to coolly convert and give Al-Hilal a shock lead.
    • 55 mins - Erling Haaland quickly restores parity by poking in from a corner.
    • 94 mins (ET) - Al-Hilal think they have won it when former Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly powers in a header.
    • 104 mins (ET) - Substitute Phil Foden squeezes home a volley from an acute angle to keep City alive.

Pep Guardiola's side had come through the group stages unscathed but failed to reach the quarter-finals after conceding four times in a haphazard defensive display.
