  1. CLOSE!published at 20:29 British Summer Time 27 August

    Birmingham 0-2 Fulham

To be fair, Birmingham have responded well to those two early blows and it requires a superb clearance off the line by Timothy Castagne to deny Keshi Anderson from pulling a goal back for the League One club.

  2. goal

GOAL - Middlesbrough 0-2 Stokepublished at 20:27 British Summer Time 27 August

    Ryan Mmaee (57 mins)

Stoke take a firm grip on the early kick-off. Quality from Lewis Koumas again, the on-loan Liverpool man skipping away down the right and picking out Ryan Mmaee and he makes no mistake from close range.

  4. RED CARD - Matty Pearson (Huddersfield)published at 20:27 British Summer Time 27 August

    Walsall 0-1 Huddersfield

The away side are a goal up but a man light.

The League Two side have been growing into this and now they've got a great chance to turn it around.

Jack Earing looks to run in on goal and Town defender Matty Pearson takes him down outside the area.

    Red card.

  5. goal

GOAL - Harrogate 0-3 Prestonpublished at 20:27 British Summer Time 27 August

    Milutin Osmajic (39 mins)

Preston are cruising through and grab a third goal in the opening 39 minutes.

Milutin Osmajic, who earned the penalty which Sam Greenwood converted a couple of minutes earlier, gets on the scoresheet himself. He received a pass from Duane Holmes and blasted a shot into the roof of the net.

  6. goal

GOAL - Leicester 1-0 Tranmerepublished at 20:26 British Summer Time 27 August

    Jordan Ayew (38 mins)

A great goal from Jordan Ayew. He shifts the ball on to his right foot after Tranmere make a mess of a clearance and unleashes a wonderful strike from 20 yards past 43-year-old Joe Murphy to put the Premier League side ahead.

  8. Postpublished at 20:24 British Summer Time 27 August

    Walsall 0-1 Huddersfield

We're still at the "I didn't know he played for them now" stage of the season.

Good to see Albert Adomah, 36, making a good start to his time with Walsall.

The experienced winger joined the Saddlers in the summer after a successful trial and has already opened his account for the League Two side.

He's been involved in much of his team's brighter moments so far this evening.

The fact that Everton are struggling to have a shot on target against a League 2 team says it all about the strength of their attack at the moment. How are they going to survive in the Premier League if they struggle to test the goalkeeper tonight?

  10. CLOSE!published at 20:24 British Summer Time 27 August

    Middlesbrough 0-1 Stoke

Jason Koumas was some player and his son Lewis looks like the business as well. He could have had a hat-trick at the weekend and remains a real threat, firing into the side-netting now as Stoke continue to casue trouble for the hosts.

  11. CLOSE!published at 20:21 British Summer Time 27 August

    Blackburn 1-0 Blackpool

A chance for Blackpool! Aynsley Pears in the Rovers goal does well to keep out Rob Apter's effort, and Elliot Embleton sends the rebound high over the bar.

  12. Postpublished at 20:21 British Summer Time 27 August

    Leicester 0-0 Tranmere

Leicester beat Tranmere 2-1 in the 2000 League Cup final at Wembley, when the competition was called the Worthington Cup with an 18-year-old Joe Murphy in goal for Rovers.

Murphy is playing again today, at the age of 43, and has performed well in the first half to keep it goalless, making fine saves to deny Leicester's Jordan Ayew and then Oliver Skipp.

Re: Chris 20:07, the lower ranked club may prefer to play away if it means a big pay day that can help their finances. Remember when the lower ranked team drawn at home in the FA Cup could elect to play the tie away? Whenever a team did it they were criticised for ruining the "romance of the cup". Tell that to Bury et al. One way would be to have a pot of the money earned by all the clubs throughout the competition, and then divide it up equally between all the teams who took part.

    Birmingham City 0-2 Fulham

    Stephen Warnock

What a ball from Andersen. Stansfield times it perfectly and gets between the full-back and centre-back.

The ball is delightful but the finish is equally as good.

    Birmingham City 0-1 Fulham

    Gary Rowett
Former Birmingham manager on BBC Radio 5 Live

Birmingham have started so well in this game and sometimes when you play against as Premier League side you feel that there are moments of magic but it wasn't even that.

He was so close to the strike but the referee must have seen something.
