People posting about a League Cup without sides in Europe. I naively thought 30+ years ago that those leaving EFL for the Premier League would be excluded. Maybe now?

As someone who’s become dispirited by the same clubs winning year in year out, I’d be all for a league cup competition without teams playing in Europe. Lessens fixture congestion, provides teams a chance to win a trophy and get into Europe who normally wouldn’t! It’s a silly idea but would bring a bit of fun back to football!

Birmingham City v Fulham (20:00 BST)

    Fulham

Fulham manager Marco Silva speaking to Sky Sports: "Tonight we are going to start again and it is always our ambition to go as far as we can go and to do the same kind of run as last season [in the Carabao Cup] is perfect for us. If we can go one step further then it would be better.

"It doesn't matter who we play, we prepare the same way. Huge respect for Birmingham as well. You can see that there are 11 changes but the team is strong enough to represent us well. We will do our best to play in the next phase of the competition. Every time we can have them on the pitch it will be better than the training session. It is not because of fatigue, it is important to have all players a the the same physical level. This evening you are going to see five debuts in our football club. Let's hope everything goes well for them."

"I know Tom [Cleverley] has wanted this. He has put a lot of work in to get this opportunity., He is doing a very good job [at Watford] and I am pleased to see him because I know how difficult it can be."

On the passing of former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson: "Yesterday was such a sad day. Sven played such a huge role in my career. He gave me my debut and we had such a great relationship and when I went into management we were in touch too. It is such a big loss for football. I think we can all look back and say he was a very good person."
