    England

It's good news for England fans. John Stones recovered from illness to join training this morning.

He spent Wednesday isolated in his hotel room as a precaution to prevent the sickness spreading to the rest of the squad.

After training, Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher attended the daily news conference, where he said England's defeat to Iceland in their final warm-up match could prove to be a positive.

"I think in a way it could be good that it happened," he said.

"I think it was a bit of a wake-up call for us that it's not easy to win games against any country.

"Like I said, we are going to be more than ready to beat Serbia."

Steve Wilson: The up-and-coming face of Croatian football has inevitably been dubbed 'The Next Modric' - well of course he has!

Title winners Dinamo Zagreb will not be able to hold on to him much longer after an impressive Under-21s Euros in 2023, followed by his best goalscoring season to date. Juventus and Arsenal are on his case, and they won't be the only ones.

  8. Benjamin Sesko (Slovenia)published at 16:12 British Summer Time 13 June

Age: 21 Position: Striker Club: RB Leipzig

Radio 5 Live football correspondent John Murray: Is there a potential danger for England lurking in their third group match?

Sesko is a 21-year-old, 6ft 5in striker who Arsenal fans will be aware of because there has been much talk of a £50m-plus transfer from RB Leipzig. Although his new deal will dampen that.

He’s taken the well-trodden path from Red Bull Salzburg (with a loan at Liefering) to Leipzig, and the goals have kept flowing. He scored 18 goals for Salzburg in 2022-23 and almost equalled that for Leipzig last season.

Steve Wilson: Sesko is becoming one of the most sought-after players of the summer of 2024. He could soon rival Zlatko Zahovic as the best Slovenia outfield player of all time.

We heard earlier about school children in Rochdale getting excited about the Euros, but which breakout young stars will capture their attention at this summer's championship?

Not many of the 622 players who could feature in Germany can be classed as total unknowns, but are any of them world-beaters in the making?

  10. It wasn't a hard decision - Kelly on joining Newcastlepublished at 16:06 British Summer Time 13 June

As mentioned earlier, Lloyd Kelly has become Newcastle's first summer signing.

The 25-year-old Bournemouth defender has chosen to make the move north at the end of his Cherries contract and will now hook up with Eddie Howe again from 1 July.

Howe signed Kelly when he was Bournemouth boss.

Speaking to the club's website, external, Kelly said: “It wasn't a hard decision for me to come here. Working with the gaffer previously, I know what he wants from his players and how he wants his players to play, and I think with what I can bring it just makes sense. I just can't wait to get started.”

Magpies boss Eddie Howe added: "Lloyd is a player I’ve admired since the early stages of his career. Alongside his undoubted defensive ability, he brings versatility and leadership qualities that I believe will make him a great fit within our squad and somebody our supporters will quickly take to."

Caldershaw Primary School in Rochdale has been getting into the Euro 2024 spirit by doing a prize sweepstake.

Year one pupils at the school have each picked a team at random and made a collage of that country’s flag.

As teams are eliminated, the flag will come down off the window, with the child who has the winning team getting a special prize after the final.

Unfortunately for Arlo - the son of one of our colleagues who is taking part in the flag game - he got Slovenia.

  13. Police director on potential trouble at England openerpublished at 15:52 British Summer Time 13 June

Serbia v England (Sun, 20:00 BST)

    BBC Radio 5 Live

England’s opener against Serbia has been deemed high risk by German authorities.

Around 2,000 banning orders have been issued to legally prevent known troublemakers from travelling to Germany.

Andreas Morbach, who is overseeing the police operation for the game, spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live and said a lot of factors can make a match high risk.

“We see that both parties (England and Serbia) have a certain number of risk supporters at their home gates.

“There's a hostile relationship and we expect a provocation on both sides and there may be people who react on that.”

Morbach said a huge police operation is in place for the game and, working with police from the two countries, they are focusing on communication with supporters.

On keeping supporters apart outside the ground, Morbach said: “It's not as easy as in the in the league... because we as a police force in Gelsenkirchen don't know them so [well] as we know our home fans.”

The police director called reports that 500 Serbian hooligans may travel to Gelsenkirchen as “speculation” but said that if fans become “dangerous” then “they will be taken away".

So Conor Gallagher is going to be ready for Serbia on Sunday.

Sadly, security officials are concerned about possible crowd issues at the game and have declared it a "high-risk" fixture...

  15. Iceland defeat could be a 'good thing' - Gallagherpublished at 15:37 British Summer Time 13 June

Serbia v England (Sun, 20:00 BST)

    England

OK, here's a final post from Conor Gallagher's England news conference.

The Chelsea midfielder was asked for more details on the impact Mauricio Pochettino had on him at Stamford Bridge: "He just showed his belief and trust in me, which is all a player wants. If the manager shows you a bit of love it makes you play better, gives you confidence."

On whether Gareth Southgate is similar in that sense: "Absolutely. He has been brilliant with everyone, that's one of the reasons he's a great manger, how he makes every player feel. He fills them with confidence and he has certainly done that with me."

On the importance of starting well against Serbia following the Iceland defeat: "Very important. In tournament football it is important to do the first thing as well as you can - the right pass, winning the first tackle, first header, second-ball - just to give the whole team confidence to go and win that first game.

"With the Iceland game, although it wasn't a good result and it wasn't the best performance, I think in a way it could be good that it happened, I think it was a bit of a wake-up call for us that it's not easy to win games against any country. Like I said, we are going to be more than ready to beat Serbia."

    England

On the mood in the England camp, Conor Gallagher added: "I'd say the mood is the same [as in the Qatar World Cup] to be honest. In the last tournament we had belief we could go and win it, obviously it didn't go our way but we have the same feeling this tournament.

"The group has so much talent and we are really excited to get started and hopefully do the country proud."

  17. Gallagher 'ready to contribute' on the big stagepublished at 15:28 British Summer Time 13 June

BBC football news reporter at the England camp

Conor Gallagher has been a pretty fixed part of the England squad in recent times. However, even though he went to Qatar as part of the World Cup squad he is still yet to make an appearance in a major tournament for England.

He's had a good season for Chelsea and captained the side through most of the year so it is interesting to hear he feels he is more ready to contribute on the big stage.

Conor Gallagher on which teams he is worried about in the Euros: "We have got to look at the group we are in now and take it game by game. We've had a great week training up to the first game against Serbia and we are going to be more than ready to try and beat them."

Back to England midfielder Conor Gallagher and the side's base in eastern Germany: "Where we are staying at the minute is an amazing place and all the guys and girls from England have set it up for us so we feel at home. There is always stuff to do."

On challenging close friend Marc Guehi in the games room: "To be fair I am really good friends with Marc and we've played a lot of games already.

"We have little comps day to day. Table-tennis, we were playing Mario Kart the other day, darts, although I'm obviously not very good. There's a lot to do, we were enjoying the basketball net yesterday, which is also very fun.

"I've not seen any superstars yet, but I'll let you know if I do."
