  2. Southgate the best man to lead England after Euro 2024 - Hurstpublished at 12:14 British Summer Time 13 June

Serbia v England (Sun, 20:00 BST)

Sir Geoff Hurst believes Gareth Southgate will remain the best option to lead England forward after Euro 2024, despite the national team boss indicating it could be his final tournament if the team fails to win it.

Hurst, the last surviving member of England's victorious 1966 World Cup side, said it would take a calamity in Germany for circumstances to dictate a change in manager, as he praised Southgate's record in charge as "better than anything since '66".

England begin their campaign against Serbia in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday seeking to exorcise the memory of their heartbreaking defeat on penalties to Italy in the final at Wembley three years ago, with the men's team's trophy-less run now extending back 58 years since Hurst's hat-trick helped beat West Germany to earn the country its first tournament success.

"I think [Southgate] remains the best option," Hurst told the PA news agency. "But I can fully understand if he doesn't win it with this bunch of players - and he's had probably more games than any other manager apart from one or two - that maybe it suits him [to leave].

"I don't think necessarily it suits England. I think he's the best man for it, ongoing. It may be his decision himself, that maybe it's time to go."

On Sunday, Southgate will move above Sir Bobby Robson to third on the all-time list for most matches as England manager - behind Sir Walter Winterbottom and England's manager in 1966, Sir Alf Ramsey.

The Scotland fan who walked from Hampden Park in Glasgow to Munich has arrived to cheers from the Tartan Army.

Craig Ferguson, 20, travelled solo through six countries to raise funds for Brothers in Arms, a men's mental health charity based in Glasgow.

He left the city in May and arrived in Marienplatz to a guard of honour and the world’s media.

He shouted “thanks so much for coming down”, before enjoying some champagne in the Munich sun and joining in on a rendition of Flower of Scotland.

He has raised over £51,000 for the charity.

That opening match is edging ever closer...

One person who'll be watching closely is comedian and Germany fan Henning Wehn.

He was speaking to 5 Live Breakfast earlier about cycling to the Euros from the UK.

He was in a small town in the Netherlands called Weert, with 100 miles to go having completed just under 200 miles.

"We haven't won anything in 10 years - now it's 10 years of hurt," said Wehn on Germany's chances.

"A few months ago, I would have said it's a miracle if we make it out of the group so I would have taken a draw with Scotland, a draw with Hungary and a 1-0 defeat to Switzerland, I would have settled for that.

"But now with a new manager and beating France and the Netherlands, we're going to win it!"

Joel, Littlehampton: Breathing a sigh of relief? Slightly harsh considering the fact that Lewis Dunk has been man of the match in two of his previous six England caps. Yes, he had a very bad March but he is absolutely not the donkey the media seem to want to portray him as. Stones is absolutely first choice but a Dunk and Marc Guehi partnership should be able to cope with Serbia, should it be needed.

Euro 2024 isn’t the only sport in town.

The Stuttgart open tennis tournament is taking place this week with Britain’s Julian Cash currently playing in the men’s doubles quarter-finals.

I bumped into some Scotland fans who are staying nearby and don’t have tickets to the football.

They are train hopping across Germany, hoping to soak up the atmosphere and see what they can get to. Maybe some tennis this afternoon?

They were very proud to show me their custom-made Scotland flag and hope to make it to Munich, via Cologne, by tomorrow evening to join the other 2,000 plus fans celebrating their Euro 2024 opener against hosts Germany.

BBC Sport's Rhia Chohan is in Munich to gauge the mood in the build-up to Scotland's match against Germany on Friday:

"Fans have been arriving in Marienplatz straight off the plane with their wheelie suitcases. The bagpipes are going with the Flower of Scotland and it’s all relatively calm at the moment in the Munich square - but knowing the Tartan Army, this place is expected to be jumping later. Here’s my favourite T-shirt so far…"

Serbia v England (Sun, 20:00 BST)

    England

Gareth Southgate might have been looking relaxed, but he is sure to have plenty on his mind.

Will John Stones be fit to start against Serbia on Sunday?

If not, who will be his starting partnership in the centre of defence?

The real positive to take away from today's session is that Stones seemed to be moving well after sitting out Wednesday's session because of illness.

Currently breathing a sigh of relief on behalf of all England fans.

Sadly, we only had brief access to England's training session so that is the end of our stream today.

From what we saw of it, Gareth Southgate was looking very relaxed.

The surface at England's training base looked in good condition and the sun was glistening down on it.

Not a bad place to prepare for the Euros, I would say.
