Now here's a very excited mother and son duo in passport control… Mary-Anne and John, who’s 14.

They’ve travelled from Glasgow for the game and are so, so excited. This is both of their first times ever seeing Scotland play.

They only found out they were coming two weeks ago when they got tickets through a friend. John can’t wait to hear the atmosphere in the stadium of the German and Scotland fans together.

Daughter Jess Barber took the mammoth flight from Melbourne to Munich to surprise her dad Sean by joining him and her two brothers here ahead of Scotland’s opening game.

That white away top below from the early 90s (top row, furthest right) is an absolute belter. Was one of my favourite shirts as a teenager - and I'm not even Scottish.

Wish I still had it, and if i did, I'd definitely be wearing it tomorrow night, hoping Steve Clarke's side can pull off an upset in the Euro 2024 opener.

The Tartan Army are famous for their dedicated fanbase, and up to 200,000 fans are expected to travel to Germany to support Steve Clarke and his side in the opening game of the Euros against the hosts.

There won’t be many fans who will travel further than Gary Irvine, his wife Kim, and their sons Ross and Greg, who live in Perth, Western Australia.

They flew from Perth to Dubai, and are expected to arrive in Munich on Thursday afternoon. While the boys have tickets, Gary and Kim plan to enjoy the game with many other members of the Tartan Army in a fan zone.

Ahead of his journey, Gary told me that depending on the jet lag, they plan to head out on Thursday night for “a few drinks and a sing-song”.

“Hopefully the sun is out in Germany as it’s wintertime here in Australia,” he added. “I’ve got all my Scotland tops packed, not long now.”

Well, what an experience Manchester airport was at 4am this morning!

I’ve never seen so many men in tartan kilts proudly walking around an airport. There was so much Scottish excitement in the air - the fans were ‘buzzing!’

I sat by two fans from Aberdeen on the plane who had been travelling for 12 hours to get to Munich - and they don’t even have tickets to tomorrow’s game. They just want to come to experience the atmosphere and they reckon there will be another 200,000 fans like them who are just here for the party.

I met Dad and son duos John, wee Josh, Calan and Ross in the passport control queue who’d travelled from Glasgow. They were so excited and their kilts are attracting lots of attention, especially from the American tourists!

Former Scotland winger Pat Nevin feels the pain of the Tartan Army as they make the trek to Munich.

Fans have been arriving in Germany over the past two days - many after taking protracted routes over land, sea and air - to make sure that they can sample the Bavarian hospitality as Scotland take on the hosts in the opening game of the tournament on Friday.

Nevin is now in position in Munich, where he will be covering the match for BBC Radio 5 Live.

He told 5 Live Breakfast this morning about his own marathon adventure: "My journey from Scotland to get here was 17 hours. How far can you get around the planet on a flight that is 17 hours? Usually a wee bit further than Edinburgh to Munich, so I had a tough one yesterday."

  14. 'We will be watching every single movement'published at 10:09 British Summer Time 13 June

Serbia v England (Sun, 20:00 BST)

    BBC 5 Live Breakfast

BBC Radio 5 Live presenter Steve Crossman has spent his first couple of days in Germany in Weimar with the England camp.

He was on 5 Live Breakfast this morning talking about his experience so far - with one player dominating the agenda...John Stones.

The Manchester City defender missed training on Wednesday due to illness, but is due to join the rest of the squad in today's session.

"He has been kind of on lockdown effectively, so that the illness didn't spread to anyone else. On top of that, no-one is totally sure whether he is fully fit," said Crossman, referring to a knock Stones picked up in England's friendly defeat to Iceland.

The 5 Live presenter said that it would "feel unlikely that we will see him on Sunday playing against Serbia" if Stones missed today's training session.

But he added: "If we suddenly find out he is training today then that picture will completely change.

"We will be watching every single movement - is there a limp there? That's what it is like at major tournament camps. It is basically an anxious experience. Is everyone running OK?"

What I would give to see the Scotland squad turn up to tomorrow's game in kilts... and the Germany squad in lederhosen.

Until then, we'll have to make do with this picture of England captain Harry Kane and his Bayern Munich team-mates Thomas Muller and Alphonso Davies in traditional Bavarian clobber from back in August.

If England do manage to go all the way this summer, Harry had better dig out this outfit from his closet!!

  18. Sir Bobby's secret Ronaldo plan - reliving Brazil v Scotland 1998published at 09:44 British Summer Time 13 June

Germany v Scotland (Fri, 20:00 BST)

    Nick McPheat
    BBC Scotland

It will not be the World Cup opener for Scotland on Friday. It is only a European Championship curtain-raiser.

Brazil, therefore, will not be the opposition, and Paris is not the venue. Instead, it is just host nation Germany, in Munich.

There is no Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Cafu or Roberto Carlos to worry about, only Toni Kroos, Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala and Joshua Kimmich.

All things considered for Steve Clarke's side then, perhaps Friday's game will not quite hit the same heights as the glamour of opening the 1998 World Cup against the reigning champions. But, my goodness, it is not far off.

Twenty-six years on from their last major finals on foreign soil, the Scots will have a global audience watching them once again when they kick off Euro 2024 with Germany at Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena.

But what - if anything - can Clarke's current crop learn from the experience of Craig Brown's men more than a quarter of a century ago?

Here, BBC Scotland revisits an iconic day in Scottish football history, told by the late Brown and members of the squad he led to France.

While Chelsea fans recover from that Sam Kerr scare, we'll get back to the Euro 2024 build-up over in Germany as ICYMI, the 2024 European Championships start TOMORROW!!!!

And not only that, one of the home nations are involved, with Scotland taking on hosts Germany in Munich.

The group action then gets in full swing with three games a day from Saturday to Monday. What a weekend we have in store people!!

    Can. Not. Wait.

  20. 'European glory with Chelsea remains Kerr's goal'published at 09:30 British Summer Time 13 June

    Emma Sanders
    BBC Sport

Sonia Bompastor’s arrival as manager marks a new era at Chelsea, and the former Lyon boss has plenty of work to do including overseeing the final steps of recruitment in this summer’s transfer window.

But persuading Kerr to continue her journey with the club – especially after she was forced to sit out most of the 2023-24 season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury – was the number one priority.

Ever since Emma Hayes announced her departure from Chelsea, fans have been anxious to know what that meant for the future of out-of-contract superstar Kerr.

She was persuaded to move to the WSL by Hayes in 2019 in what was one of the biggest transfers in women’s football history.

The pair built a special bond, spearheading Chelsea to huge domestic success.

It was Kerr’s idea to tease some hysteria around her contract extension, knowing how highly regarded she is, and Chelsea's elaborate announcement videos across social media were intended to showcase Kerr’s cheeky personality and to capitalise on engagement.

Chelsea have gone one step further by renaming the stadiums to ‘Samford Bridge’ and ‘Kerrsmeadow’. A sign is being installed on Thursday and will be on show until Sunday in honour of Kerr’s new deal.

Her profile as one of the greatest footballers in game is undisputed, but she is still missing the Women’s Champions League from her illustrious list of honours.

Victory in Europe remains the ultimate goal and it is bad news for other teams that Kerr has decided to continue that pursuit with Chelsea.
