  2. 'We had the game in our hands'published at 22:57 British Summer Time 9 May

FT: Bayer Leverkusen 2-2 Roma (agg: 4-2)

Roma's two-goal midfielder Leandro Paredes told Sky Sport Italy: "It hurts. We had the game in our hands and unfortunately, with Mancini's own goal, we were forced to leave space.

"Against strong players you can't do that. We had done everything to score two goals, until minute 82 we played a great match.

"The own goal forced us to leave spaces. We are sorry, we made a great effort. We wanted to give the fans the final but we go home empty-handed."

  3. 'Try to finish the amazing season by achieving the last objective'published at 22:53 British Summer Time 9 May

FT: Olympiakos 2-0 Aston Villa (agg: 6-2)

    Aston Villa

More from Aston Villa boss Unai Emery speaking to TNT Sports:

On how to bounce back after the last few results: "Firstly get back to Birmingham. Then tomorrow rest and Saturday we focus on the match on Sunday against Liverpool. We are motivated and excited for it. Yes today we are disappointed but only one team can win, so for us to continue with the frustration doesn't make sense.

"My message is clear. Move on and we have to try and finish the season doing an amazing season, particularly if we manage to achieve the last objective. Even without it [Champions League] we are in Europe in the Europa League.

"We will go over what we have done in the last two legs against Olympiakos and try to learn and take positives from it, take the information from it. Take the experience. Recover, reset and move on."

  4. 'Olympiakos have got so much going for them'published at 22:50 British Summer Time 9 May

FT: Olympiakos 2-0 Aston Villa (agg: 6-2)

    Peter Crouch
    Ex-England striker on TNT Sports

Having watched Olympiakos closely over two legs there, they've got so much going for them.

So in the final I think they've got a real chance, and that would be an amazing story for a club like Olympiakos.

In the first leg they were on the front foot and that's how they created their chances, but they were a little bit more solid in the second leg and that's down to hard work.

  5. 'We need a big push in the final two games to get us over the line.'published at 22:47 British Summer Time 9 May

FT: Olympiakos 2-0 Aston Villa (agg: 6-2)

    Aston Villa

More from Aston Villa captain John McGinn speaking to TNT Sports:

On tonight not taking away from a great season: "It won't take it away, but tonight our instant reaction is to be gutted. We all wanted to be back here [in Greece] playing the final but Olympiakos gave it everything, played out of their skin in both legs and overall the scoreline proves that they were the better team.

"We'll reflect, there's a lot of things we could have done better, but over the course of the season there's a lot of things to be proud of.

"We need to apologise to the supporters who travelled. We so badly wanted to win a trophy for them, we all wanted it so badly. We need a big push in the final two games to get us over the line for the Champions League which would be an astronomical achievement.

"Tonight the feeling is that it's an opportunity missed but congratulations to Olympiakos and we wish them all the best in the final."

  7. 'There will be a lot of calls for El Kaabi this summer'published at 22:42 British Summer Time 9 May

FT: Olympiakos 2-0 Aston Villa (agg: 6-2)

    Rachel Corsie
Scotland and Aston Villa captain on BBC Radio 5 Live

There will be a lot of phone calls coming in for Ayoub El Kaabi this summer with his contract expiring at the end of the season. Sometimes you watch one game and think, 'Is this a one off?'

Tonight he has shown that it absolutely isn't. He's not had many chances across both legs of the tie but anything he has had a sniff of he has put in the back of the net. He has shown how clinical a finisher he is by firing his side through to the final.

  8. 'Emery has done an incredible job'published at 22:41 British Summer Time 9 May

FT: Olympiakos 2-0 Aston Villa (agg: 6-2)

    Peter Crouch
    Ex-England striker on TNT Sports

Emery has done an incredible job. He mentioned that they're a club in a process, but they look like a team that's really well coached.

If they do get Champions League football, the level goes up a little bit more and the players can take on the experiences that they've had in this campaign.

  9. 'We were not clinical'published at 22:40 British Summer Time 9 May

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery, speaking to TNT Sports, says: "We got to be in Europe at the end of last season and this year we enjoyed it but to win is very difficult and we are in the process [of developing].

"They [Olympiakos] deserve to be in the final. We lost it in the first 90 minutes at home and we were not competitive. We started this first half well, they scored but we controlled the game but we were not clinical.

"This is an experience for us at Aston Villa after a long time [of not being in Europe] and again we are going to compete in Europe next year. Of course we are a little bit disappointed, a little bit frustrated but we have to move on quick. We started the first leg and maybe we were favourites but after the first leg we weren't.

"We have to try to finish the season and for it to be very amazing [if they qualify for the Champions League]."

  10. 'We played a heroic game... it hurts'published at 22:36 British Summer Time 9 May

FT: Bayer Leverkusen 2-2 Roma (agg: 4-2)

Roma boss Daniele de Rossi told Sky Sport Italy, via Uefa.com: "We played a heroic game. They are strong.

"We did very well in the first 25 minutes, like in Rome. We had few shots, we have this habit of trying few times, sometimes it can make the difference. The lads played an incredible game.

"Two days ago, we were at the Olimpico against Juventus giving everything. Tonight another match of physical and mental effort.

"Leverkusen played well, but when you take it back and come close to a miracle knowing that no-one won here, and you find yourself reopening the tie with an unlucky own goal it hurts. But we start again with this spirit."

Villa are building something long term. This Europa Conference campaign was invaluable experience for what comes next -

    Gareth

David: Rob, Emery has several European trophies to his name, so he can hardly be forgotten. His Villa side are on the verge of qualifying for the Champions League from flirting in the relegation zone. Hardly fading away.

Aston Villa captain John McGinn speaking to TNT Sports: "Believe it or not we actually started the game very well. The first half was a really good performance by us, but over the two legs very, very disappointing obviously.

"We went into this competition of favourites and we handle that throughout the competition. I think it has been a big learning curve for us. It's not been a smooth journey, we got to the semi-final and were down to the bare bones a wee bit. However those of us that were out there across the two legs lost to the better team and the scoreline shows that.

On if injuries have caught up with the team: "Possibly. Possibly. The manager drills into us that is is a no excuse environment. Listen you want everyone available, you want your best players there. When you are in the trenches, someone you can turn to in order to change the game or do something different.

"Tonight I think the game plan was perfect in the first half. We've got to be really proud of how we played. The goal was extremely disappointing. The tie was unfortunately lost in the first leg - we didn't control the game or manage it well enough, the performance was poor.

"For us going into more European competition next season we need to learn how to manage moments a lot better. Of course we wanted to do better this year and get to a European final but we will do everything we can to get ourselves back into this position and get to a final. "

Bayer Leverkusen wing-back Jeremie Frimpong speaking to TNT Sports: "We did it again. I think this one was the best one so far. You could see how intense it was. It is the best feeling.

"We had to dig so deep. It is the semi-final of the Europa League against a great team. We were the better team and the better team won.

"Nothing was going in. We kept missing but this season we have been phenomenal. You can't count us out, not even for a second."

On how Bayer Leverkusen continue to go unbeaten: "The team bond we have. No-one gives up. Everyone knows that if we go down, we will get a goal. OK we scored to make it 2-1 and we were going through, but we still wanted more.

"It is an amazing feeling. Especially to beat Roma. They were talking a lot so it was great to beat them."

  14. 'The first leg wasn't good enough from Villa'published at 22:25 British Summer Time 9 May

FT: Olympiakos 2-0 Aston Villa (agg: 6-2)

    Alan Hutton
Former Aston Villa defender on TNT Sports

The first leg wasn't good enough from Villa, they knew being at home for the first leg they had to put on a performance and they didn't do that.

It's such a shame, I'm so disappointed for them, but it's not all doom and gloom - there's some big things ahead for them.

  15. From despair to delight?published at 22:24 British Summer Time 9 May

Olympiakos 2-0 Aston Villa (agg: 6-2)

Huge disappointment for Aston Villa tonight but that could turn to celebration in the next few days.

They will qualify for the Champions League on Saturday if Tottenham lose to Burnley or then two days later if Villa defeat Liverpool at Villa Park on Monday night.

Villa, European champions in 1982, have not played in the top continental competition since 1982-83, when they went out in the quarter-finals.

They have never played in the Champions League since it was rebranded in 1992.

  16. 'Leverkusen were exquisite'published at 22:23 British Summer Time 9 May

Bayer Leverkusen 2-2 Roma (agg: 4-2)

    Joe Cole
Ex-Chelsea and England midfielder on TNT Sports

    Leverkusen were just exquisite.

When they did get pinned back, it was a real, real classic performance from them. They are just a top, top side.

  17. 'We wanted to score the next goal to keep going unbeaten'published at 22:21 British Summer Time 9 May

Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Granit Xhaka speaking to TNT Sports: "Yes and how we did it. Much more deserved. If you see all the game, we had so many chances. This is football. It is the nice part of football. For the mentality we showed again today against a big team to come back like this and go through to the final. We are more than happy today.

"You see the desire from the team, we didn't want to slow down. We wanted to score the next goal to keep going unbeaten, 49 times now. We are proud of it.

"Roma is a team that has a lot of experience and they do things very well but I think over two games the better team has gone to the final."

On reaching the final: "We have a lot of respect for Atalanta and first of all, we are happy to be in the final. We have time now to prepare and analyse, but we have some games to go still."

  18. Postpublished at 22:19 British Summer Time 9 May

FT: Atalanta 3-0 Marseille (agg: 4-1)

Atalanta are the first team to reach a maiden Uefa final since 2015 when Dnipro of Ukraine reached the Europa League final.

They lost 3-2 to Sevilla in Warsaw.

  19. 'It's a fairytale for Leverkusen'published at 22:16 British Summer Time 9 May

FT: Bayer Leverkusen 2-2 Roma (agg: 4-2)

    Owen Hargreaves
Former Bayern midfielder on TNT Sports

    It really is a fairytale.

They seem to just never get tired. They have won the league and they just keep pushing forward. Roma played terrific and Leverkusen had 32 shots.

It is really special. Something like this happens very very rarely but to do it at the elite level [is incredible]. I think they are going to go unbeaten.

Some things are just fate. I believe it is just written for this Bayer Leverkusen team to go unbeaten.

This is history. This is destiny. I'm a Greek football fan, I don't get to watch moments like this very often. I have Euro 2004 and now I have this one. The idea of seeing a Greek club in the final of a major European competition is unthinkable, if anyone said that in the middle of the season they'd think you're insane.

Olympiakos signed 16 players in the summer, four of them have been dropped, two of them have been sent out on loan. They then bought eight more in January, and only three of them are in the European squad list. Now they are going to a final. To many people they are the favourites now.

Olympiakos have been trying to do this since 2010 when Evangelos Marinakis took over, They have kept on dreaming, failing to get out of the group stages in 14 of the last 16 times, with a Greek owner, with a Greek budget. This has been in the works for many, many years.
