    Dan: Bayer Neverlosing!

Rob: Forget Emery. Alonso is the main man. Villa have overachieved and faded to nothing recently.

Olympiakos have so much creativity, you can see how well coached they are.

They've got so many plusses, why can't they go on and win it?

There's so many games in this competition, so any team that gets into the final and still does well domestically - its a credit to any side.

So it will be Bayer Leverkusen v Atalanta in the Dublin final on Wednesday, 22 May.

Atalanta have never been in a European final before. Leverkusen last won a continental trophy in 1988 when they beat Espanyol on penalties to win the Uefa Cup.

  5. 'Olympiakos did a number on Villa'published at 22:05 British Summer Time 9 May

FT: Olympiakos 2-0 Aston Villa (agg: 6-2)

    Neil Lennon
Former Celtic manager on BBC Radio 5 Live

Congratulations to Olympiakos, they have made history tonight. Not the biggest night in their history yet, that is to come in a few weeks' time. They defended when they needed to, attacked when they got the chance, and were clinical. They found a way to see the game out, Ayoub El Kaabi man of the match. They did a number on Villa.

Villa have made small steps in the right direction. If they make Champions League football by finishing fourth then they will surely invest in the summer, they are a little light for where they want to get to at the moment. It has been a great campaign but they have come up short against a great team tonight.

Am I the only one who thinks Emery has underachieved with this Villa squad? Not a bad season but should be winning this competition.

    Chaz

A reminder that when Villa sacked Steven Gerrard in October 2022, they were only out of the Premier League relegation zone on goals scored, with two wins from 11 games. Now, Villa are closing in on qualifying for the Champions League having just played in a European semi-final. Emery has done an absolutely sensational job.

Bayer Leverkusen break the record of Benfica for longest unbeaten run by a European top flight team in all competitions since European competitions were introduced.

Benfica's 48-game run didn't all come in the same season either, it was between 22 December 1963 and 14 February 1965.

    That is incredible. Absolutely incredible.

The desire, the willingness not to get beat. They took it quick and Stanisic buries it into that bottom corner.

This is one of the most remarkable seasons in the history of club football.
