  1. Arteta quiet on Watkins linkpublished at 22:40 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January

    FT: Girona 1-2 Arsenal

    Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta: "“Really good at the moment. Things are going well.

"We won the last four games in the Champions League but winning in this competition is very demanding but overall the team has been very consistent, regardless of all the issues they have had to face.

"Hopefully more belief in that dressing room that we are a good team and can face anyone and still perform and win games.”

On David Raya's injury: “He certainly could not play, he is injured and that is it.”

On rejected Ollie Watkins bid and transfer business: “I can’t talk about any of that. My confidence is that we have an amazing club with people always working to try and improve. Let’s see what happens.”

  2. 'We lifted our soul and our hearts were free'published at 22:38 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January

FT: Manchester City 3-1 Club Brugge

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola speaking to TNT Sports: "In the second half we lifted our soul and our hearts were free. For today we are in the next round, that's good. The first half was so academic, we didn't have the spark to do it against a team that defends really well.

"Going to Bayern Munich or Real Madrid will be really tough but it's in two weeks and in two weeks we have a few players back, the new signings back, so hopefully we can do two good games."

On how much difference it will make to be able to register his new signings for the next round: "Of course, it's important. We suffered all season without players. To have these players, you have more alternatives. Hopefully, Jeremy [Doku] is back as well so we have players to do it and do our best."

On whether it was fitting that Mateo Kovacic, who has won four Champions Leagues, scored the equaliser for Man City: "Kova was there and he has experience and he scored a fantastic goal. I know Kova is able to break the lines in that way. It is something unique, something special. We did it and now it is time to enjoy it because it has been a really, really tough season in the Champions League. We struggled a lot but finally we could qualify and the draw is the draw. We'll see."

On what this could do for Man City's season: "I don't know. It has been so unstable this season. Today is a sense of relief to qualify and of course, it is a long season for us."

  3. 'The highlight of my career'published at 22:36 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January

    FT: Aston Villa 4-2 Celtic

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers speaking to Uefa: "Definitely the highlight of my career so far. It's a crazy experience and a crazy game to be a part of. It's a massive achievement and we should be proud of ourselves.

First player in CL history to score twice in opening five minutes: "It's something we had to address starting games behind and giving ourselves a mountain to climb. Still something to work on but the good start is something to put us on the right foot.

"I felt we were on top for the large majority. We scored two goals and that's what changed the game. We are a bit shorthanded at the back at the moment. We got the win.

"We had to dig deep, we know we can, we do it in the Premier League every week. We thoroughly deserve it. We've got the hunger and the drive and we've got a manager who pushes us every day."

  5. 'Glad our place was settled'published at 22:32 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January

    FT: PSV 3-2 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson, speaking to TNT Sports: "We can take a lot of positives from tonight and it was a chance to give the young lads a chance.

"We got our noses in front at 2-1 and then were a bit naive, which usually doesn't happen. We tried to push when we fell behind but it just didn't happen. Results went our way elsewhere so we finish top and that's what we wanted at the start of the season."

On youngsters getting an opportunity: "They were really good. [James] McConnell was great in midfield and driving forward. Big [Jayden] Danns was great up top and held up the ball really well.

"We also had experienced players getting a chance, Federico [Chiesa] was really good and got the 90 minutes he needed."

On the new Champions League format: "Two extra games but tonight looked like carnage, the league table was all over the place, so I'm glad our place was settled.

"All the games on one night created excitement. We know whatever format it was, our aim is always to get to the last 16 and then we see if we can go further.

"I'm just glad we don't have a play-off and we're in the automatic eight. There will always be tough games so lets see who we face one they fight out in the play-offs."

  6. 'We know we are a great team'published at 22:30 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January

FT: Manchester City 3-1 Club Brugge

    Manchester City

Manchester City midfielder Mateo Kovacic speaking to TNT Sports: "Every game in the Champions League is a tough one. We are through which is the most important, it was a tough group stage for us. Whoever comes next will be difficult so it doesn't matter. We conceded in the first half but we are happy that we could score and win this game and in the end we were half.

On manager Pep Guardiola's half-time team talk: "It was good because we came out very well. We knew we needed to step up. In the second half, we showed great character to win and go through. The crowd was behind us so amazing atmosphere today."

"It was important because we knew we are here to go through, we have a good team and we came back from 1-0 down. We know we are a great team."

  7. 'Possibilty of a Real Madrid v Man City play-off is fascinating'published at 22:28 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January

FT: Man City 3-1 Club Brugge

    John Murray
BBC Radio 5 Live chief football correspondent at Etihad Stadium

The possibility of Real Madrid against Man City in the play-off round is absolutely fascinating given the recent history between the clubs.

They have played each other in each of the last three seasons; last season in the quarter-final it went to a penalty shootout and Bernardo Silva dinked kick down the middle, and then semi-finals in the two seasons prior, Man City winning one of them.

Those three games were absolute classics.

  20. City tactical switch workspublished at 22:05 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January

FT: Man City 3-1 Club Brugge

    Joe Hart
Former Manchester City goalkeeper on MOTD: UEFA Champions League

City made a tactical switch in the second half, to stop John Stones pushing up as high. It meant Brugge had less men in the middle, and gave City more space, so they were not as narrow when they came forward.

Ultimately, though, they wore Brugge down, if they had carried on the way they were playing in the first half, then it would have still have worked, but they realised they could clear a bit of space in the middle, and make that part of the pitch less congested.
