  10. Guardiola's £10k present to Man City staffpublished at 09:26 British Summer Time 29 August

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has given a £10,000 bonus to each member of his first-team support staff as a gesture of appreciation for their work last season.

The gift was received by all City staff who work in the first-team building at the City Football Academy within the Etihad Campus.

Sources say the money came directly from Guardiola, with the overall total outlay in excess of £500,000 given there are between 50 and 70 members of staff involved.

It is understood to include kit men, security staff and physios.

The City boss often uses his pre-match press conferences to highlight the wider contribution beyond himself and his immediate coaches in delivering a squad that consistently hits such high standards.

Last season, City became the first team in English football history to win the league title in four consecutive seasons. They also reached the Champions League quarter-finals for the seventh successive season. They have also reached at least the semi-final of the FA Cup for the past five years.

  16. Why is Chiesa a 'dangerous move' for Liverpool?published at 08:51 British Summer Time 29 August

We told you earlier about Liverpool's £10m deal for Juventus midfielder Federico Chiesa, who is expected to undergo a medical at Anfield today.

All being well, the Italian will become the first signing since Arne Slot was appointed manager at Liverpool.

So who is Chiesa? Where will he fit in at Anfield? And why are Juventus letting him go for only £10m?

One key question is over Chiesa's fitness. The 26-year-old has spent over 400 days out injured since November 2021, so can he stay fit in such a physically demanding league.

"He can bring some proper speed to Liverpool, but he is very prone to injuries," says Italian football journalist Daniele Verri.

"With the rhythm and intensity of English football, I'm not sure he will cope with that.

"It is a bet for Liverpool. He won’t cost that much, but it is a dangerous move."

Speaking to BBC Radio Solent after Southampton’s 5-3 Carabao Cup second round win at Cardiff, Saints boss Russell Martin said: "If it happens it’s very, very exciting.

"But we'll have to wait and see. I’m sure we’ll talk about it at some point if and when it happens."
