Josh Barrett scored a hat-trick in the 10 minutes either side of half-time as Aldershot ended a seven-match winless National League run with a 3-1 victory at Oldham.

Barrett struck twice from the 44th minute to put the visitors ahead at the interval after Manny Monthe's powerful header from Josh Kay's free-kick had given Latics the lead just three minutes earlier.

Both of Barrett's goals were similar in execution. The first coming when he lifted a shot over Mathew Hudson from Tyler Frost's knockdown and then dinking another effort past the goalkeeper from the edge of the penalty area in added time.

Six minutes into the second half he completed his hat-trick when he converted Theo Widdrington's square pass.

Oldham had a chance to pull a goal back midway through the half but Shots goalkeeper Marcus Dewhurst saved Billy Waters' penalty as the hosts missed the chance to consolidate their position in the top five.
