Motherwell were denied a late Scottish League Cup group win away to Montrose but claimed a penalty shoot-out bonus point.
Stuart Kettlewell's side looked set to make it two victories from two when defender Shane Blaney's first-half header went unanswered until late on.
But midfielder Ali Shrive's finish on the spin meant the third-tier side would gain at least a draw while denying their top-flight visitors three points.
However, Kettlewell's men ensured it was just one point they dropped, winning 5-4 on spot kicks after the full-time whistle.
Edinburgh City and Clyde play the group's other midweek game on Wednesday.
