Gabriel Otegbayo has only started one league game for Sheffield Wednesday

Teenager Gabriel Otegbayo's 85th-minute strike salvaged a draw for wasteful Sheffield Wednesday as they surrendered an early lead and missed a penalty before denying Millwall just their second away Championship victory this season.

Millwall trailed to Yan Valery's shot at the interval, only to turn the game on its head thanks to strikes from George Honeyman and Ryan Wintle as they picked up a first point in new boss Alex Neil's second game in charge.

But Otegbayo's timely first goal for the Owls made it 2-2 within two minutes of Wintle's left-foot strike from a Josh Windass flick-on.

Wednesday had spurned several great chances to add to their lead, hitting the woodwork three times in the second half, but most notably when Ike Ugbo blasted a penalty over the bar at the end of the first period.

Ugbo, who has not scored in 12 starts and 12 league substitute appearances this season, had his opportunity to end that run when Anthony Musaba was fouled by Joe Bryan in the box.

But his impetuous spot-kick beat keeper James Beadle and went over.

Valery's second goal in 25 league games this season, after some smart interplay by Shea Charles and the impressive Musaba, was just one of three attempts on target before the break.

Ugbo was wayward with a strike just before his penalty miss, while Charles also fired an effort over the bar for the hosts.

But the Lions, who had not scored in 630 minutes of football before the trip to Hillsborough and had managed just one win in 11 games, responded well to their early setback.

Casper de Norre came closest to levelling, with an effort that was cleared off the line by Di'Shon Bernard, after Japhet Tanganga's initial header was saved by James Beadle, while a Mihailo Ivanovic strike went narrowly wide.

It was the Owls, seeking a fourth win in six games, who dominated after the break, with Windass hitting the underside of the bar and Barry Bannan having an effort come back off keeper Lukas Jensen's left-hand post.

But they paid for their profligacy as Honeyman equalised, following a long free-kick into the box.

And, after Musaba also hit the woodwork, a well-struck Wintle shot made it 2-1 - only for Otegbayo to intervene with a goal that means Wednesday remain three points outside the play-offs, albeit having dropped a place to 10th.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl told BBC Radio Sheffield:

"I am very happy with the offensive play - how we created chances against a team who are normally very strong in the defence.

"To score two times and have some good opportunities is great, but we are conceding too many goals at the moment. That is 10 goals conceded in four games and that is not good enough.

"We are top six in the table for scoring but bottom six for conceding. It is not just a team tactical thing but individual decision-making and mistakes.

"We have to step up as a group if we want to achieve more. We have to improve the defending. We have to take responsibility. We entertain, but we entertain too much.

"We had good moments and movement attacking-wise, but to win games it is about clean sheets. We should win this game, but we didn't."

Millwall boss Alex Neil:

"Based on the game, it's a great point. In the first half we didn't do well enough; we were fortunate it was only 1-0.

"We had a chat at half-time and responded brilliantly. We scored two goals and made it much more difficult for Sheffield Wednesday - albeit they did have their chances.

"Once you go 2-1 up, you are naturally disappointed that you don't see the game out, because defensively we are particularly strong.

"The goals are disappointing, particularly from a set-play, because we should spot the ball slipped down the side and, if we do that, we can defend our box and go on and get three points."
